Why you like teaching

It has financed my travel! I have also been fortunate enough to meet some wonderful people along the way. Also like the feeling of satisfaction that comes with it, and I like the "nerdiness" of learning new things about the English language!

Tips for first time teachers

Your students will teach you at least as much as you teach them. Be open to learning, and it will make you a better teacher.

Details

My TEFL experience includes stints in Barcelona at the largest TEFL school in Europe and at two institutes in the U.S. I've also taught refugees and immigrants in Florida. I can think of no better way to learn about other countries and cultures (and our own) than teaching EFL. I treasure the many friendships I've made and the unique experiences I've enjoyed over the years. How else would I have learned to love eating Korean Bulgoki or be invited to the joyous Buddhist wedding of a Vietnamese student?

In addition to online teacher training for i-to-i, I teach college writing and study skills online. I also do personal coaching and write. My features on business, education and the environment have appeared in the St. Petersburg Times and a variety of other publications. My most recent writing interest is the growing crisis of clean and adequate water resources, particularly in the developing world.

My wife, Loren, and I live in Tampa. My son Drew and daughter Melinda attend Florida universities. I love to travel, this year to the Caribbean island of Dominica and last year to Costa Rica.
