6. What kind of school will I be teaching in?

7. What is the dress code?
Dress code can be strict and you are expected to dress smart casual. Some schools insist on long trousers and no sandals.
Frequently asked questions about employment in Honduras
1. How much will I be paid?
Salary at one school is LPS6,500 approximately up to $300 per month but teachers can also work extra on Saturdays for an additional payment of LPS80.00per hour. The salary at the second school is paid an hourly rate of LPS75 per hour and the working hours vary from week to week. The working schedule is programmed each week so this gives the teacher the flexibility in case you want free time to travel.
The cost of living is very low, approximately $270, but will depend on how much you travel at the weekend but the salary should be enough to cover rent, food and other basic living expenses. If you wish to travel and go out a lot, you are advised to take additional funds with you.
2. How much money should I bring with me?
It is important to remember that you only get paid once a month, so you need to bring enough money for their first month living costs such as food, transportation, accommodation, etc. The most important thing you need to remember is that the salary is not enough to save or do much travelling around. It will cover your basic needs only and will give you the opportunity to work in good schools where you will achieve good working experience.
3. Do I receive a bonus or flight re-imbursement?
No bonus or flight re-imbursement is offered.
4. What are my working hours?
This will vary from school to school, but generally Monday – Saturday and hours can by anything from 8am – 8 pm.
5. Can I renew my contract?
Your contract may be extendable; you would need to discuss this with your school.
6. What happens if I need to break my contract?
You need to give notice 2 weeks in advance. In the case of an emergency, or if you are not enjoying your time you can simply discuss this with the Director and it won't be a problem to end your agreement.
7. What will my accommodation be like?
You will be assisted in finding accommodation by your in country coordinator and school. The style and location of the accommodation will be up to you.
