Details about i-to-i TEFL jobs in Slovakia
Earn up to €660* ($940*) a month during this 9 month placement in Bratislava. Your students will range from teenagers to retirees within private language schools. With your holiday entitlement as well as flexible teaching schedule, you’ll have the chance to do a bit of exploring in your free time. What’s more? If your teaching experience is a success, you’re sure to receive an end of contract bonus!
Details
- Salary: Earn up to €660* ($940*) per month.
- Accommodation: Usually a shared flat with other teachers costing €130 - €160* per month.
- Arrival: You will be met at the airport and taken to your accommodation. You will also be taken to the school within your first couple of days, introduced to your tutor who will help you throughout your stay and introduced to the teaching methods of the school. You will receive 1 day’s orientation.
- Locations: Bratislava
- Contract length: 9 months.
- Departure dates: Departures are available every month although the majority of placements are available in September.
- Bonus: Some schools provide bonuses at the end of the course/semester for excellent feedback from the students. Bonuses may also be given for the participation in TEFL training programmes/workshops organized by the school during the school year.

Requirements
i-to-i's Overseas Partner requires that all candidates meet the following criteria:
- Native English speaker with EU nationality.
Applications are now open to residents of the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. - TEFL qualification (100-hour or 120-hour TEFL course recommended - practical training such as the weekend TEFL course is preferred by the agent as part of your qualification).
- University degree not necessary, although viewed as an advantage during the application procedure.
Teaching and Employment
- What age and level of students will I be teaching?
You will be teaching students between 18-65 (usually 20-40). Beginners - advanced most common elementary - intermediate. - How many students will there be in each class?
Public courses 4 - 12, in-company courses 1 - 10 - How long are the classes?
Most classes are 45 minutes - 90 minutes. - Are there any teaching resources?
You’ll have access to plenty of resources - Will I be teaching alone or team teaching?
You will be teaching alone, but will have support from other teachers. - What kind of school will I be teaching in?
Private language schools. - How much will I be paid?
Earn up to €660* ($940*) per month. The cost of living in Slovakia is approximately €220* per month. - Do I receive a bonus or flight re-imbursement?
Yes, some schools provide bonuses such as extra money at the end of the course/semester for excellent feedbacks from the students/customers, or extra money at the end of the stay for the participation in TEFL training programmes/workshops organized by the school during the school year. - How many holiday days will I receive per year?
It varies from school to school, but generally speaking there is 1 week in December plus national holidays, altogether 2 weeks. - What are my working hours?
Usually Mon - Thurs, 5 - 6 lessons a day, most lessons run in the morning (7.30am - 10am) and in the afternoon (4pm - 8pm). - How does the recruitment process work?
- Send required documents to i-to-i.
- Once documents have been sent to the in-country partner, you will receive a confirmation email with contact details for the partner.
- Our partner will contact you for a telephone interview. If you are successful, they will look for suitable teaching positions, arrange interviews for you with potential employers and advise you when to travel to Slovakia.
- You will travel to Slovakia for face to face interview(s).
- If successful you will sign a contract with the school you will be teaching at and you can start teaching immediately.
- Applicants from USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand will be helped by the school to obtain the documents needed to apply for a work visa at the closest embassy.
- Can I renew my contract?
Your contract may be extendable; you would need to discuss this with your school. - What happens if I need to break my contract?
The teacher must hand in notice (usually 1-2 months must be given) - What will my accommodation be like?
Usually a shared flat with other teachers. - Who is my contract with?
The contract you sign will be with the language school or institute that you will be teaching at, not with i-to-i or with our overseas partner. This means that if you have any complaints regarding your teaching placement you will need to take the matter up with the language school or institute and not with i-to-i. - What visa do I need?
Our in-country partner will advise on the visa process and requirements for this.
