Over recent years Brazil's economy has risen steadily and looks set to become one of the top five economies in the world in the years ahead. As with most countries enjoying financial growth, the demand for English language teachers is rising too. While there aren't a huge number of TEFL jobs in Brazil, people with specialist knowledge and experience can gain a visa and find work. However, gaining a visa as a TEFL specialist is extremely rare and most TEFL teachers choose to work illegally on tourist visas.
Brazilian language schools see hiring foreign nationals to teach English as prohibitively expensive. Therefore it is almost impossible to get a working visa to teach English in Brazil and the only option is to work illegally. If you choose to take this route, you'll need to do a twice yearly border run to a neighboring country to renew your visa.
If you don't plan to rent yourself a penthouse apartment looking out over the Copacabana, the wages from your TEFL job in Brazil should enable you to live comfortably. How much you earn will depend on your experience and level of TEFL certification with wages ranging from 1,500 to 3,000 Real (US$850 to US$1,500).

Brasilia is the capital city and home to all of the apparatus of government. If you have some previous teaching experience and a top-level TEFL certificate, you'll have a good chance of finding a TEFL job in Brasilia.
