Q. CELTA vs i-to-i TEFL: which is better?

Category: Online TEFL Courses

A. Answer:

It's the clash of the titans - in the blue corner we have the CELTA (The Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults), and in the red corner we have the i-to-i EDI CertTEFL course... but which will win out?

A CELTA course is an internationally-recognized 4-week residential course, which is designed for people who want to make a full career out of TEFL. It costs upwards of £1,000, so is certainly a commitment. However, it is more prestigious than an i-to-i TEFL course due to the depth of training it offers and the fact that it's accredited by the Qualifications & Curriculum Authority.

Our flexible EDI CertTEFL aims to have the same outcomes as CELTA courses, which means they give you the same skills, but squeeze it all into six consecutive sessions on Saturdays and online learning. The EDI CertTEFL course will save you a lot of time and money, while giving you the skills you need to get paid teaching work anywhere in the world. Our CertTEFL is also internationally recognized by the British Council and accredited by the UK Government.

The ODLQC (Open and Distance Learning Quality Council) has also given all i-to-i TEFL courses the thumbs up, and we constantly keep an eye on our courses to ensure they make the grade.

So it's certainly not a knockout on either side - the course you choose will just depend on your personal circumstances. Both the EDI CertTEFL and CELTA are recognized Level 5 qualifications.

Whether you're looking to teach abroad for just a year or two, or make a long career out of TEFL, our EDI CertTEFL certificate will give you the foundation you need, without you spending unnecessary time and money on a course. You can top up your training as you go, so there's no need to commit at an early stage. Get started by looking at our TEFL courses.
