Teaching and living in Seoul...1 year on!

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't blogged in a VERY long time. Been busy with work, partying, travelling around Asia :) It has been exactly 1 year since I first stepped in Korea, so I thought now would be a good time to write about my experiences so far! Teaching: I teach 4th, 5th and 6th graders in an elementary school west of Seoul. Its been a very up and down experience. Most of the students...

First blog in Korea!!!

Hi everyone! Sorry for the very late blog. The past few weeks have been crazy and its only now that I've started to settle down a bit and found time to write this, so here it goes! The orientation has been great! I met LOADS of people. I never thought I'd have good talks with a single person before I got there, but no... I was fine! I was also amazed at conversations about my...

Paranoid Android

Hi all, Its been a few weeks since I sent my docs off to EPIK now, and I've gotta say...I'm feeling very scared, nervous and paranoid (hence the title! haha...no?... oh). Why am I nervous? Applying for EPIK, who employs over 1000 tefl teachers a year, is a sure thing to get employed right?? Well... it looks like we're wrong. Here are just a handful of comments from other applicants on facebook: "I've just had...

Documentation....SENT! Next step: more waiting :(

Hi everybody! It has been the longest month for me, with all the waiting and trying to get all the documents mentioned in my previous post. Well, the last of my documents (apostilled docs) finally arrived today! As soon as I got them, I quickly grabbed all the other docs, wrapped them up, and sent them off to my recruiter. I have been looking around for couriers to go with (DHL, FedEx, UPS etc) but...

EPIK Interview

I had my inteview this morning! Scheduled almost 2 weeks after my initial application, so I think its not a bad result! I actually enjoyed the interview! The coordinator who conducted the interview was very nice and wasn't as cold or skeptical as I heard conductors can be, but no, we actually had a nice casual conversation :-) Right, here are all the questions he asked me: Could you confirm your details? (name, address, korean...

I have decided...

...SOUTH KOREA!! Whereabouts? Hopefully, Seoul! Busan is my second choice, but I haven't got round to pick my 3rd,4th and 5th choices yet. I'm gonna try for a public school place (EPIK), I've heard some bad things about private schools (hagwons?). Right I picked a location and type of school, next step: Application. Ok, this is the part which I'm finding it very time consuming. Along with the application form, I have to provide 2...

FINISHED!!!! ....Or am I?

Wow. I have officially completed my 120hr course! I'm not really sure how I should feel. I think I feel a bit terrified? The main reason why I wanted to do this course was to travel like everyone else, but the next step of trying to get a job abroad, is actually quite terrifying!! I'm currently living with my parents at the moment. They say they are happy with whatever I want to do (they...
