My first few days with the German language - lol!

Just got myself Rosetta Stone. Always wanted to learn German. "Das Auto ist gelb" - lol, sounds funny! Want to give it a real shot, though. I work with a guy who is from Germany. Will be practicing on him, lol!

I am not sure if I want to pay busuu. I am cheapskate! Ha! I didn't even check, how long is the free trial there?

I just signed up for busuu. Right after I signed up I saw your prof. on there. Do you like it so far? I've found it interesting and helpful. But this is what I observed on it right away. I think there are fake profiles on there, I think mostly there are guys who ask fake questions under the pretense that they are learning a language. They are probably hitting on the girls in hopes to start a relationship.

This looks interesting http://www.busuu.com/ I found it last night. Have been on it before?

On an unrelated topic, how did you pick Italy from among the EU countries? Or did it pick you? :)

Значит ты говоришь по русски? :)

Thank you for the site. Looking pretty good. By the way, have you ever tried Google Translate ? What do you think about it? It seems like it translates everything literally, but I wonder if it is fairly accurate if you translate English to German?

Thank you, I will definitely look for it at a local Barns & Noble.

I am a Russian immigrant. I've been in the US for over 12 years now. I'd like to start teaching English sometime at the end of this year (hopefully). Naturally, I am thinking Russia or Georgia, but it also can be China or Thailand. Not sure yet. Have you been/taught in any of these countries?

Oh, I see. You are probably perfect in German, you're just too shy or humble to admit it. :) That's exactly how I studied English (English is my second language, by the way). It seems like I tried a little bit of everything (tapes, books, videos and so forth) until it all fell into a picture. And, of course, a lot of practicing.

I am pretty sure I am more on a visual side. I remember words/the grammar better if I see them. So, I guess printed German lessons will be a way for me to go?

Hi Cherogoth!

Your German looks great to me. You will be bored with me as I am just in the beginning of it. I can't even put one long sentence together yet... But if you think you will not be bored then I have a question: What materials did you use when you first started? Do you think getting books in German and just sitting with a dictionary trying to read them can be beneficial?
