Normally they do ask for CELTA or TESOL certifications, however, those that seem to allow TEFL certifications want 100+ hours. Most feel that online courses are a joke, unless they are 100+ hours. And then sometimes they are still iffy about taking people with them. I know inlingua was looking for some teachers in Russia about a month ago roughly. Not sure. But look into it. www.inlingua.ru I've never taught in Russia. I wish. I took two years of Russian in high school (barely remember it) but I'd love to go. Instead, I'm lucky to get the Russian side of Ukraine. So I'm content. Being able to speak Russian might help you greatly. Gives you the ability to maybe land something aside from language schools. I'll keep my eyes open though for you on jobs in Russia. I'll send you a message in a bit with some links. :) Poka!
Thank you Kiki for the response. I have a college diploma (unrelated to teaching languages) and the 40 hour combined TEFL certificate. What are my chances? Good, bad? You see, I also speak Russian. I wonder if that can be to my advantage there. I found one site that I think could be helpful ( http://www.englishfirst.com/trt/english-language-teaching-in-russia.html ) but would like to have more options.
Russia can be an interesting place to try and find work. Most have high standards of qualifications. Many schools prefer CELTA or Trinity certifications and nothing else. However, it is possible to find work. I'll look through some sites and see what I can find to help you out. Do you have a university degree?
Good luck from one of the few Slavs on the chalkboard!
Hi Everyone!
I am Vitali. I will try to add a picture as soon as possible. The reason I am here is I would like to go to Russia as a TEFL teacher sometime at the end of this or early next year (2010-2011). Going to Russia to teach English has been on my mind for quite a while, but only now I feel like it is the right time to start seriously planning this next step.
I can safely assume that some of you are just like me - at the beginning of this exciting road ahead and then there are others that are pros of this trade. I would love to glean as much as I can from both groups.
A little bit more about me: I am a guy in my early 40's.
Thank you for checking out my profile!
