What are some other great destinations? Everything focuses on Asia...

Africa is amazing to teach in, people are so receptive towards you and the skills you bringing to the School and if you get to teach primary kids they are a joy to teach especially in the rural parts of Uganda, Kenya and South Africa.

You rarely see offers for Africa though.

You do but you have to look for them.Same for Asia really the best Schools are the ones you find yourself. Most people are put off with going to Africa because of either visas, issues of safety and lack of pay but to be fair i have travelled widely across Africa and only once encountered problems.People have been ding TEFL for years without the internet, internships and agencies.Sometimes its worth just doing your research on a country and then finding the opportunities yourself.

I agree on the bit about doing it yourself. I'm not big on the internship and such. I've done all my hunting on my own and have helped others find options. I feel more rewarded with doing the work myself. If I was in the States I'd have to go job hunting myself ... wouldn't be able to have someone else do it for me really.

I wouldn't mind visiting Africa, but not sure if I'm ready to live in Africa yet. I congratulate you for doing it though! Where all have you been?

I think internships and going through agencies is a great way to find your feet in TEFL especially if you have little/no experiance and dont know a country well but there are some Schools and countries out there that really need qualified TEFL Teachers and they dont advertise so rely on people finding them out.Even in places like Thailand there are Schools crying out for TEFL Teachers in the rural poorer areas who can commit to long term placements and want to be there to teach and learn about Thai culture. These places dont advertise because they dont have the means/knowledge but if you are prepared to step out of your comfort zone they are the best placements you will ever experiance!

Ive travelled widely all over the world through work and through teaching.I have never done an internship or gone through an agency but i can understand why some people do.The best placement i did by far was in Isan rural north east Thailand, no English speakers and the little village i worked in ha never had any foreigners visit let alone stay it was amazing and i made some long lasting friendships.I have taught in the Middle East in Saudi for one year which was eye opening but rewarding and ive taught in Vietnam,Laos, Indonesia China, Korea and and Japan.

Nice. I want to visit most of those places, but I want to teach in Eastern Europe and Russia mostly. I wish I could find work here in Serbia. I'm headed to Ukraine in two weeks unless the DoS changes her mind last minute as I've not heard from her in a bit and we've been discussing visas and my apt.

I love Slavic countries.. the language, the people, the culture. It's my favorite and I want to experience it more.

I think its interesting how certain continents affect us and attract us more than others.I have only ever been to Serbia and Russia through work but wouldnt really want to work there, anything less than 30 degrees tempereture wise is not for me lol.For me i love SE Asia, the people, the food, the culture, the way of life. Its the best thing about TEFL being able to work around the world and really experiance the places you travel to.

I can see that. :) I want to visit many countries worldwide, but I love my Slavs. Many says it's because it's in my blood. I'm half Ukrainian with a Serbian boyfriend. But I've always loved the Cyrillic based languages. I find them easier to learn than Spanish, French, German, etc. I took two years of Russian in high school and LOVED it! I wouldn't mind working in Russia. I have lots of friends there. Serbia has my heart though and not just because of my boyfriend. The people are just great! I'm looking forward to Ukraine to learn about my heritage though as I wasn't born in a very Ukrainian based family. Our heritage was ignored actually. :((

I look forward to traveling though!
