About Me

My name is Stephen and I am from Cork, Ireland.
In my lifetime I have been an Engineer, a Bouncer, a Waiter, A Kitchen-hand, and a Professional Stage Actor. I have finally settled on 'TEFL-ing' as I used to work in Nagoya, Japan as an Engineer and my friends were English teachers, many of whom had completed their TEFL course. They had such a great time that I had always wanted to give it a try myself :) I feel that as a TEFL-er that you really get to mingle and intertwine with the community that you are working with, and you can really savour a new cultural experience! TEFL is also regarded as being THE standard schools require to grant employment.
I would love to go back to Japan, or China, or Thailand as I have visited these beautiful countries. I still have some level ('Rusty') of  Japanese and so I think that I would find it easier in the first 6 months (standard cultural 'breaking in' time) than my last visit as I could jump straigh back in .... after studying my language course again of course.
What I love about life is going out and meeting new friends, from a variety of walks of life, different nationalities, and especially our cultural differences! We all exist with the same needs, but I am constantly amazed by our small differences :)

Hello Steven,

Thanks for your reply,

Yes they have paid jobs abroad (look under internships on the homepage) which is what I've been intrested in. To be honest I wanted to teach in England but was unsure about going for a PGCE as I wanted to travel and experience a culture as well - so this seems like a great option.

Also because we have no ties I think why not get out there and live, instead of being one of them people whom just talk about it endlessly. :)

What is Checkpoint 3 and how is your course coming along?

Do you know which course you need to do to qualify to go abroad with?

I was thinking about doing it in a weekend centre instead of online - which could take me more time.

Sylvia. :)

Hi there SCecilia1986. TEFL is a world known organisation and you do get one of the best certificates out there, which will get you a job. I have not gone on an internship yet but I will sign up for one when I get past Checkpoint 3.

The accommodation in the Internship is a dorm style I believe and you will be living with other internship people, so you should be safe. Whenever you travel anywhere its up to yourself to remain safe.

as for getting paid on an internship..I do trust them.BUT I do not know what the pay is yet as I have not looked into it...but I will soon :D

SO YES they are a very good company, and you DO get a good certificate that is recognised worldwide. I know quite a few people who have done this and are now living in Vietnam and China and have never regretted it

Go for it ;)

Hello Steven,

How are you? Thanks for accepting my friend request. I wanted to bend your ear about a couple of things. I am thinking of doing a TEFL Course but want to make sure its fine and reputable. You can never REALLY be too careful as some people try to take money from people without following through things. Im also concerned about whether or not you actually get paid on the internships and if the accomidation they put you up in is safe.

What are your experiences?

What Course do I need to do to get started? I was thinking of doing the Classroom weekend course. What do you think?

Sylvia. :)
