Hey thanks for your help. Today I recieved an e-mail from Gusti to set up a time so he can call me next week to chat about the job.... I have to day I am delighted!!! I hope you hear something soon dont give up....
I applied for a position in Indonesia through the job placement services on December 1. I suppose that the placement service has contact with EF schools. Thats fine, but I received an email stating that my docs were received and sent to partners in Indonesia and that I should receive contact in 28 days. It's been a month now without any contact and I want to know if this is a common thing. I know that the holidays might have delayed things, I just need some info on how this process normally works. I'm very excited as I feel I meet all the requirements for the position. Anyway, we'll see how things go.
Hey thanks for your reply, this chalkboard community is helpful. Well, I started volunteering to get my feet wet and to supplement the online course. The experience has exceeded my expectations and I feel that I can hack it in the classroom. Volunteering is great, but I need a paid position. I would love to travel overseas to Saudi Arabia, Egypt or Japan. Unfortunately, I have alot of college credits, but no degree. So i'm looking into Indonesia. Any advice?
Glad you're teaching is going so well - sounds like you're doing a fantastic job! Are you planning on volunteering in Atlanta long term or are you thinking about going overseas soon?
Hello, I just wanted to let people know how helpful the courses are. I've been volunteering teaching esl to Haitian refugees in Atlanta, GA over the last 3 months and the experience has been really rewarding. I've worked in different occupations, but teaching esl is definitely the most rewarding even though it's not a paid position. The material in the 100 hour course was challenging, but well worth it. The course really drilled preparing lesson plans and I can't stress how important that is. Everything rides on a well prepared plan and a 2 hour class with a poor plan would not be fun. However, with a well thought out plan, time goes by so fast and you look like a pro to your students. I have a good bond with my pre intermediate adult students who are new to the U.S.A and have been through a very tramatic experience ( The 2010 earthquake). They have to cope with physical and mental handicaps that I could'nt comprehend just by watching the Hatian situation on T.V. With alot of patience and discretion I got over some bumps in the beginning and i've been teaching by myself without the aid of a translator for 2 months now.
Everything is going well, the games and activities presented in the modules are very helpful as well as the lessons on seating and grouping students. In my opinion the course was well worth it!
