Anybody got any pros and cons of working with ILA in Vietnam?
I'm interested in working in Vung Tau and am wondering is there very short contracts for approx 3 months from September?
Thanks in advance for your time!!
Chalkboard is i-to-i's TEFL community.
It is currently still in testing phase which could mean you find the odd bug!
Q: What is i-to-i Chalkboard? A: It's the online community of TEFL specialists i-to-i.com

I can only really speak for Hanoi as that was where I worked, but I can safely say that none of the big name schools (International House, ILA or Language Link) will accept online certificates.Obviously there are other schools, but not having researched them, I can't really advise.
If you only want to teach for a year or so, I would stick with Plan A and the online TEFL certificate. There are always some schools who will accept them. Have a look on eslcafe.com/joblist or tefl.com.
If you intend to make a career of teaching though, it is worth investing in a CELTA/Trinity CertTESOL - they open more doors than an online certificate ever will. When it came to doing the CELTA, I found that the knowledge I had gained from i-to-i's online course gave me a huge advantage over my fellow trainees, and thus I came out with the highest grade possible.
Right... do you think I could get work with any good rep schools in Vietnam for around 6months from the end of August with a tefl cert or do I need to get something better?
Thanks again for your helpful info Briona, I've posted stuff up here before and got no responses!
I'm afraid not. To work at ILA you need a minimum of a CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL. Both of these courses include 6hrs of observed (and assessed) teaching practice, which, with the exception of the online CELTA, is something you just don't get on online/combined courses.

Thanks Briona for that!
Would a 120hr combined online tefl course be sufficent to your knowledge?
To work in Vietnam you need a degree, and to work at any of the big-name schools (IH, ILA and Language Link), you need a CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL. They don't accept online certificates. ILA do have a pretty good rep though, so if you meet the requirements, I'd definitely consider applying to work there.
You are most unlikely to pick up a short-term contract outside of the summer period (end of May to early Aug). Note that the academic year starts in August, so September might be a bit late to be looking for work.
