There are so many places you can chose from in Suzhou. You can teach adults or Children or at some schools you can teach both.
You can work for private language schools or International schools with British or American curriculums.
You could arrive in Suzhou on a tourist visa and easily find a job or you could confirm a job before you arrive.
Life in Suzhou is pretty relaxed and as long as you find a great school, work can be pretty relaxed as well.
Some schools get their teachers to work 40 hours a week, 20 teaching hours and 20 office hours. Other schools just do the teaching hours. The salaries are the same but if you dont look at the contract carefully you might find yourself working allot more hours than other teachers getting the same salary.
Take your time looking for a job. Search for information about the school. Join the local expat site and ask people already living in the city to see if they have any information about the school. If you speak to someone on the phone or skype ask them to confirm everything you have spoken about in writing.
Beware of agencies or agents. Once they have got you a job, they might not offer any support after if things start going wrong.

I'm sure what you say about "agents" is very true. But some are good. I had an agent who helped me so much and found me a great job at a University (and I didn't pay her anything for that). So, I'm sure there are some agents who are doing an excellent job. She contacted me near the end of my contract and asked if I want to look for another job (but I'm staying where I am for another year). -- However, in the future I'll definitely use here again. --- so I recommend this particular one. -- if anyone wants her contact address, just write me, ... you can find my web site: "Jeffrey Scott Longstaff" - and email address is "doublelibra@gmail" ....
