New to TEFL

Greetings

I recently signed up onto this site, and I am in need of some assistance, since I am completely new to TEFL but I would love to go for a course, and have been considering it for almost a year now.

Today, I have made up my mind that I want to do it, and I would love to go and teach in South Korea. I have found the courses that I can do online, and I hope to get to work soon enough. I do however have very little knowledge about what happens after I finished my course.

I am uncertain of how to get a job afterwards, and how to prepare myself for these things. Will visas be required, or can an Agent organize things for you. As I have said, I am completely new to this, and my knowledge at this stage is incredibly low.

Any information would be gladly appreciated.

I will do some more research on this matter and see what can be done. I am a South African, but I think that the system will work closely with the UK version, but as I said, I will have to do some more research on that matter.

Hey,

When you have an idea, you need to start your paper work 3-6 months before you want to go. If you are American, it is 6 months, but if you are from the UK, I'd start it a maximum of 4 months before. Positions tend to start being advertised about 3 months before they are open (up till the day before, just about :P) and your CRB is valid for 6 months after it is issued in the UK and takes about 1 month to get done. In the US it takes about 3 months. I don't know about other countries, but I'm pretty sure the US is the longest one. You will probably go through a recruiter (who is paid by the school that wants to hire you, not you!!) and they'll walk you through the process. However, you can get most of the stuff done yourself, and if you find a job without a recruiter the school will make you it's first choice as it won't have to pay fees.

Anyways, visas are actually pretty easy, but won't be issued till after you sign a contract. You then send your documents to your school, they send you back a visa number and you send this, your passport and a couple of other things to the Korean embassy. They will then send you back everything within a few days.
