Hi Everybody,
I have been teaching English for a few years now here in Chile but doing an i-to-i TEFL course two years ago really changed my life as a teacher.
I don't think I will be going soon to any other country to teach English as this is where my home is and I do have a lot of students here. Most of them are adults and, let me tell you, this is a very hard job to teach somebody who brings into your classroom all the errors and mistakes they've "learned" before. This is like pulling out the weeds and they would spring up again and again........anyway, I enjoy it, I'm pacient and ...finally they learn.

Sofia,
I am planning my trip to Chile in the next few months. I wish to meet up this time with folks that live there and with I-to-I folks that teach there on this second trip in 12 months. Want to get info on how folks adjusted to the non-english speaking world, my spanish is coming along slowly, the people were great, everything was very pleasant there on my trip.
Any input would be appreciated.

Hi Sofia ,
What do you think i would need under my belt to teach in South American, And is the pay good enough to live on while you are their and lets say you have a few bills back home is their ways you can find extra work ? looking forward to hear from you thanks :)
Thanks Sofia, I was about to ask the same question as Charlene.
Hi Charlene,
Ok, great idea to come to Chile! Beautiful continent, beautiful people.
I took an on-line course, just 40 hours. In my situation it was perfect as I had quite a lot of teaching experience. As to getting a job here in Chile, I think it would be a good idea to contact TRONWELL language school, their "work with us" dept. http://www.tronwell.com/english/why-choose-tronwell/work-with-us.html
As you are a foreigner the most important is to find out beforehand what kind of visa and work permit you would need.
Hope this will be helpful.
Take care & Good luck!!
Hey,
I'm thinking of doing a TEFL course and getting a job in South America for a maximum of six months before travelling around the continent.
After you did your TEFL course was it easy to find a job? How long did it take you?
Also, which TEFL course did you do?
Really need some sound advice from someone before I make this big decision.
All the best,
Charlene
