Teaching In China: Hong Kong and going back to yonji

My company made a mistake on my z visa application form instead of saying I was apply in London the put down Hong Kong. So I ended up spending time in Hong Kong for almost a week. They didn’t realise that you can get a z visa in any Chinese embassy.

When arrived It was easy to find out the address of the embassy and

a taxi to the guest house in kolwoon. (address) (opening hours)

There are a number of guest houses on Nathan road between 150-200 HKD. So you don’t need to spend a lot of money staying at a hotel. Nathan road is main shopping street there are various different shops including body shop, clothes etc.

The only places that do free WIFI is the hotels. The other hotspots require you to register and pay. I did this once because I found that the Wifi at the hotel went down for a few hours. I was little worried because I would need to book my flight when the moment I got my passport back.

The next day in the morning I found a place that took passport photos in c palace after 10 am. Passport photos are needed for any visa application form. Then I took the ferry to wanchai for 6 hkd.  I got an hour before the embassy opened and found a very short queue. I was given a form to fill in. I needed to fill the details of my contact in china i.e. address, email phone number. I paid 400 HKD and was told to come back the next day in the afternoon.

Also in the after noon

So the next morning I went to the Hong Kong art gallery, which is near the sc ience museum.

On the weekend I went to Ocean Park. This park has really nice views because of location near the ocean as the name suggests. The park was nice to visit. There were a few average rollercoaster’s and lot of over rides.  They have ice skating show which is good to watch.

They also have animals at the park. They have dolphins, sea lions, red pandas, pandas and a large variety of gold fish. I found that there were not so many pandas.

On the last of my trip I went to a church nearby my hotel and I went for a swim at the pool in Kowloon Park.

Back to yongji

First I had to travel directly to Yuncheng because a Z visa only allows a single entry.

Then you have to apply to the local government for residents permit. So I had to give my passport to my company so this could be done. Also I had to get my house key back from my friend. Then I had to go straight to yongji and be ready to teach in the afternoon.

I had gone to visit the other English teacher because we wouldn’t be introduced to each other because we are from different companies. However being that were only English speaking people here it makes sense to at least talk to each other.

My assistant got upset about this and said that the company should know. I explained to her that all the English teachers in Yuncheng know each other and it doesn’t matter, which company you’re from. She sulked for the rest of the day, which didn’t make a lot sense because last she knew I had been talking to the pervious teacher from that company.  (I have to careful what I say to teacher form another company)

Anyways I went met the other English she was a friendly Canadian girl about the same age as me. We went out and had dinner together at a restaurant called Yonho.

Hi there :)

So is it quite easy to get a Z in Hong Kong? I will be changing my F for a Z around the end of August and was wondering if it was simple enough to do?

Thanks!
