CHECKPOINT TWO PART TWO

IM STUCK ON CHECKPOINT TWO PART TWO CAN NOT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND IT OR FIND INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET

How would you teach the form ‘(be) going to + infinitive’ used for future plans to a pre-intermediate class?

Outline your lesson plan using the following headings as a guideline.

Warmer / Lead in
Presentation (in a suitable context) and drilling
Controlled practice activity
Production (a personalised communicative activity)

Briefly say what you would do for each stage of the lesson (in bullet point). Each of the four stages above may contain more than one activity.

Remember to include examples of the sentences you will present and your students will practise. The sentences should follow this pattern: Subject + 'am/ is /are going to + verb' and they should express future plans.

Also include concept questions you would use to check understanding.

I thought it would not be too challenging - oh dear. Grammar I know but I do not name it. I use it. I feel that PPP may be the answer - am a day or so away from this checking thing myself. Just completed weekend course with English Defence League outside venue. Made me really relaxed !

So, Present your grammatical term

Drill - hate that word but do get students to repeat.

Produce - Get them to present it to you as the teacher.

We will be going to fly

They will

She/he will ...

Concept ? ie. Who will be going etc.

As I said, not got there yet - on 'correction!' so may be talking through the orafice that is not my mouth. May the force be with us....

I'm a little stuck on this one too.  I submitted what I thought was correct, but was told to redo it.  Having only been doing this course for 11 days now this seems a bit much to expect me to be able to set up a class already, having done less than 25% of the course.

Just do what you think is right and hopefully the tutor feedback will set you up for a successful second attemp.  also a big tip is to watch that video first and use that as a guide, with the lead in etc.

Hi Sinead,

I recommend that you contact the TEFL Helpdesk as soon as possible so that they can put you in contact with one of our great tutors to clarify things for you. You can email them on helpdesk@tefl-training.com and they'll do their best to help you get to the stage where you can submit with confidence.

Have you already tried submitting once though? You might be surprised at the feedback you get if you haven't, so it might be worth giving it a shot. I've always loved this blog from a fellow TEFLer with his tips:

You also need to take a step back and not think about over-complicating the answer. It sounds so obvious but people do it without intention all the time, so take your time and don't confuse things unnecessarily. Have you also had a look through this group to see if someone else has provided advice already on the same subject?

The regular users on Chalkboard are kind enough to help lots of people who often say the same thing and who are feeling frustrated with the course, so it's worth going over that group link above to see if a similar problem has been raised and advised upon. If not, you can contact the helpdesk, or post more information on this blog about what you don't understand. I wouldn't otherwise expect to get a response from anyone if they don't know what you're stuck on :)

Good luck! Katie
