My son now wants to b a TEFL in Japan or China when he's finished uni next year! Angela, you took the words right out of my mouth! I too want to make a difference. I constantly find myself thinking...'there must be more to life...'.
I have not yet done and ESL course, but am thinking of trying out the weekend course first. Has anyone else completed one yet?
I think, as "older" teachers, we have a lot more experience to bring to the table. We are not looking for a free ride or "working vacation". I want to make a difference!
Celeste, GO FOR IT!!! Life is to short to live with regrets. There is a whole world out there just waiting for us to explore!
Hi Sheridan
I am turning 40 in October and also thought that I was way too old to do this but I thought what the heck. I am signing up this week to do the 140 hour course and then look to do one of the internships. I decided its time to see the world and I think this is the best way to do it. I cannot wait to get started.
Angela, have you already done the course? What was the weekend course like?
I'm so glad I am not the only one out here that is not in my 20's!!! There is a whole world out here to be explored and this is just the beginning! I just had an interview with a company called "TeachAway" for a two year contract in Abu Dhabi. Can I just tell you how exciting that was?!?!?! I really hope it works out. Regardless, I have several options from which to choose and am so excited about the opportunities that are out there.
I agree completely. I've just spent 3 years at uni with a bunch of 20 year olds who made me forget how old I was! I was just wondering if TEFL was something that only appealed to the younger generation (I now know that this is not the case) as they generally don't have homes or families to look after. I'm enjoying the best years of my life at the moment and it looks like it's all only just beginning! Cheers :)
Hi Sheridan,
What's with the age thing? Age is no barrier at all for anything you want to do. I'm 43 & I'm doing my TEFL course in Sydney. I have a full time job, I study 3-4 hrs every night for my modules. It's not easy but hey, at the end I would be free as a bird flying to a destination I desire. My opinion is if you want to travel & be at different countries you haven't been before, meet people, experience wonderful cultures, this is where you start. Sort your ties out & follow your dreams... Cheers Mine...
My name is Sheridan & I have just finished doing a degree in Product Design. I love travelling and had thought about going into teaching, so when the uni sent me an email about itoi TEFL courses I was really interested. I've got a few ties at home which need sorting before I can seriously look at enrolling but I'm hoping to get those sorted soon. I believe in 'Following Your Dreams'.
