I'm a little apprehensive - I know that getting this TEFL certification is the first step...but what if I do not get a job in the end? I guess I'm a bit dismayed and depressed with the idea that nothing is guaranteed...even a job teaching English overseas. and I'm worried and afraid that I may have to re-think my 'dream' destination because Italy and Japan are probably the most popular places to find jobs!
I don't know what to do. I'm still going to finish the course of course, but I just really cross my fingers that something works out at the end of all this. =/

I think what you're experiencing is pretty much what everyone with the same EFL teaching dream has experienced at some point. Like you, I have worries and anxieties and I'm constantly going "What if this? ... What if that?" But at the end the day you can't get anywhere in life unless you try!
I think anyone with the right determination can do anything they desire if they just put their head down and get on with it. Don't worry too much and focus on passing the course and then start looking for jobs. Send you CV to companies and schools and put yourself out there with confidence and I'm sure some one out there will take a liking to you and hire you!
Just remember that EFL teachers are well desired in this day and age and there should be no shortage of jobs!
Sure, nothing is guaranteed, but with thousands of jobs out there, you'll find something - it just may not be where you thought it would. Talking of which, it's not clear what your nationality is, but if as I suspect you're not from the EU, married to an EU citizen, or in possession of a passport from an EU member state, working (legally) in Italy is going to be very difficult.
Don't get disheartened though. You will probably have an amazing time no matter where you work. That's certainly been my experience. I had my heart set on teaching in Spain, but somehow ended up first in Vietnam, then in Portugal, and from next month I will be in Poland. Despite this, I really enjoyed each of the experiences, and when eventually offered a job in Spain, I turned it down in favour oof the one in Poland.
