more info about teaching in Japan

Hi to anyone who's teaching in Japan right now, I have heard if you apply with Interac, you may be requested to drive a vehicle like a truck - is this because you are often placed in rural locations? I'm a bit nervous about the idea - but in any case, I'm still interested in exploring the possibilities of applying for Interac during the spring of 2013. More information would be great- thanks =)

Demo suggestions for HS/Adult students?

Hi all, I'm trying to prepare some demonstration / simulation teaching lessons where I might be expected to do this for ESL job interviews.   I'd love to hear people's input on what would be some good ideas for demos with HS or Adult TESL learners! I am not sure if flashcards would be as effective, as they are older and perhaps would feel bored by this? Not sure...I also don't want to teach something...

Finished the course - help for next steps?

Hi all, I've finally finished the 120-hour TEFL online course! It was admittedly challenging at times and a lot of work but definitely worth it. I feel so much more comfortable, confident and aware of my abilities and what lies ahead of me for my future teaching experiences.   I'm just a little overwhelmed and unsure of what direction to take next. I realize there are many resources for looking and finding job placements, openings...

Success =)

After creating and re-creating sample lesson plans, my mind feels a bit like alphabet soup. Thankfully, I passed Checkpoint 5! Now, time to work on the other various modules. Hopefully these won't be as arduous, but perhaps that also depends on my own self-discipline.   Hope everyone else is doing well on their TEFL courses! Have a good night or day, depending on your time zone. =)

What if I don't pass =/

Hi everyone, I hope you're all progressing well on your TEFL courses! I had a concern and I hope someone who's completed this course, or has more information, can help me address this.   I am so close to finishing my online portion of the TEFL course ( 60 hours. ) and I'm afraid, because I kept getting stuck on Checkpoint 5 just ONE question! So I resubmitted the entire question three times, it was...

thoughts on Japanese language

So I took this class in Japanese last night, not quite sure what to expect. The main problem is learning all the Japanese words for the kanji, because Chinese only has kanji but I look at the Japanese and only the Chinese words come to me. So in the process of re-learning THAT, I'm completely hopeless it seems with hirigana and katakana. They just don't seem to stay in my mind. ANYWAY after this class,...

Interac in Japan?

Wondering if anyone is planning to apply for the intake in March 2012, to teach in Japan via this program. If anyone has taught in Japan previously or is currently teaching there, would you mind sharing a bit about your experiences? I'd love to hear it all =) I hope it's not too difficult to try getting a job here? It seems to me, anyhow, that in east Asia there is a fairly good need...

south America

I feel that there are more jobs and opportunities to teach in south America, and the few people I've talked to recently have told me that they've had really great experiences when living and working there. I'd love to get feedback from anyone who is considering teaching here, or is currently doing so. Any advice and suggestions would be more than welcome! Thanks guys =)

Anxieties, worries

I'm a little apprehensive - I know that getting this TEFL certification is the first step...but what if I do not get a job in the end? I guess I'm a bit dismayed and depressed with the idea that nothing is guaranteed...even a job teaching English overseas. and I'm worried and afraid that I may have to re-think my 'dream' destination because Italy and Japan are probably the most popular places to find jobs!  ...

New and hi everyone =)

Ciao ragazzi! I'm Sheela, and I started my online TEFL course today.   I'm hoping to get certified so I can find a teaching job in Italy - it's my ideal location.   If that doesn't work out, I'm hoping to find a teaching job in Japan. I love the culture, and I can read / understand most kanji - it's the kana that will be a challenge for me, as I navigate my way...
