Im 22 years old and from London. I love travelling but have never been to Asia. Which is why I chose Indonesia and I have been teaching there since February. So I am hoping to see most of Asia, while I'm here. I am hoping by the end of the year, I would have learnt how to be more patient:D. The main reason for teaching abroad is to escape from England while I have no responsibilities.
Your source of all TEFL-related information... If you're thinking...
I am hoping to enter an exciting career of teaching...

I'm a non-native speaker and I read those words of you advising non-native speakers like me kêp going because there are still many open doors. I love your idea.
You're now in Indonesia? It's really cool. I wish one day I could go there too :)
I bet you enjoy everything there :D

Hi Shanshan,
I am thinking about teaching english in Jakarta. I have been researching it, an it seems like a good place to live. I enjoy being in large cities so this appeals to me. How are you finding it in Jakarta? Is it easy to navigate around the city? What are the people like? I hope you are having a great time, I can't wait to start my journey:)
Hey ShanShan, I saw on a couple posts that you were a key person to talk to about Indonesia. I'm just starting to look into all the TEFL stuff and would love to go to Indo or more specifically Bali. What are the living arrangements like though and how safe is it to be a girl (I'm 22 also) living alone over there? Thanks so much!!
Hi there Shanshan!
I was told I should ask you about teaching in Indonesia! I just want to know the pros and cons and whether it's possible to get a 6 month contract over there.
Thanks for your time!
Steven.
Hi ShanShan,
How are things going? Been a while so thought i send ya a message to see how everything is going and where you are now?
I am still in england(what a bore:-() still researching where to teach getting through the tefl course. I have decided to start teaching in Japan but i would like to travel afterwards so just working on saving lots of money right now and trying to become debt free so when i go abroad it wont be a issue. I'm looking to head of in August along as i can get a job by then, well keep everything crossed for me!!:-0)
Looking forward to hear from you x:-)
Hey Shanshan:-0)
Yea who can say there a millonaire!! lol. Sounds like you gotta enough money to live and have a comfortable
way of living as well. Yea i hear you about being more indepedent like you i lived away when i went uni and
that really helped me to grow as a person so i think this experience will def help me to do the same.
What about getting paid, did you open up a bank account over there? Cause i wouldnt like to carry loads of cash on be all the time. And how are you paid? Were u able to save any money while u were there?
When you returning home? Have you got a job to go back too?
lol. Sorry so many questions i know!:-)
Yea will be strange to get back to ur environment at home with ur parents when you've been independent for so long! But u'll be fine. Lovely to hear from u. xx
Hi Shanshan:-)
Thank you for getting back to me. WOW was it that bad? Sorry to hear about the troubles you've had in Asia. Its so sad that some people are still so ignorant in there thinking. But i'm happy that you've raised above it and still taking out all the positives out of your holiday! Thanxs for ur advice shanshan i def will take it on. I'm only very early into the TEFL course but wanted to do some research in advance just so i am well prepared nearer the time!
I didnt even think about south america def something to take into consideration!:-) Luckily for me i'm no fussy eater only kind of intolerant to wheat not completely can eat in moderation but hey something as simple as that i didint think of so thanxs for giving me that wake up call!
What r u planning to do now? What is the salary like in Asia as an english teacher? And was you woking for a private school or a state school? How did you find teaching english in general?
I'm so happy to hear from you Shanshan, it nice to hear from someone who is there doin it and in some way a reality check that things might not work out how u would want it too. Wish u all the best in your travels. Def please keep me updated on ur progress!! I'll do the same. Take care hun:-) p.s i'm gonna add u as a friend if i havent already! lol xx

Hey again,
I just added you. There was 11 results for Ashanti C. Haha.
I actually started teaching on August the 21st. So been a couple of weeks now. I managed to get a bit of training at a school, well the language school of my agent when we got to China in June. Though still so new to it. Classes are quite easy, but I'd like to be able to give the kids more you know?
My school has 10,000 plus students. It is a middle school. The classes I have have about 70 students and last for 40 minutes. ( 16 a week Monday- Friday ) no Chinese teaching assistant.
There is only so long you can play games for!
I am supposed to be making lessons this week about giving personal information.. but I don't have a clue what to do really.. haha.. any ideas?
Hi Shanshan,
Are you still in Indonesia? How is it going? I go on Facebook often. Maybe we could talk there too?
I am in China teaching at the mo, but Indonesia is on my list for the future too. :)
