How do you manage to stay sane on a plane? Especially when you have a looong flight… Here are some great tips for those people who are lucky enough to be going on a flight soon, let’s make it as comfortable as possible!!
1. Choose the right attitude!
It all starts with the right attitude! When you have a very long flight you might feel a bit lost, don’t know what to do and just don’t want to be in a plane for so many hours! Let it go… Don’t think about the time! So start with a positive attitude and think about the destination you’re flying to, this should be fun! Once you get there the flight will be worth it. Don’t think about the time and chill out. Pack a sense of humour and remember that no flight will be perfect!
2. Prepare yourself/get some sleep
When you’re sleeping, time goes so much faster! Pack necessary things to make it as comfortable as you can: neck pillow, earplugs, sleep mask and some warm socks!
When you’re asleep you probably won’t hear screaming children or that snoring man/woman next to you!! If you think those tips won’t work for you, go to see your doctor and ask for some sleeping pills. So sit down and prepare yourself for a nice and relaxing flight!

3. Entertain yourself
You probably won’t be sleeping the entire flight, so what to do when you’re awake? Bring your iPod, books, and magazines. You can read a book about your destination or even learn basic phrases that will help you in the first couple of days you are there! You can also bring a deck of cards or a mini game, hopefully you’ll have a nice neighbour to play a game with!
4. Get boozed up – or stay hydrated
It’s your decision…
For some people alcohol will help, don’t drink too much though, they could refuse you on the flight! With some booze you might feel a bit more relaxed and may help to get you to sleep faster, but just go easy. For some people it’s not a good idea, due to the dry air in the cabin you need a lot of water and juices to make sure you don’t get dehydrated! All caffeine drinks aren’t a good idea as well as alcohol, but if you feel like having a beer and/or a coffee just go for it!
5. Get up and meet people
Get up and walk around a bit, go to the toilet or start chatting to someone. Stretching every couple of hours is good for your blood circulation as well! Talk to people who cross your path who are not immersed in their books or a film (or asleep!). You’ll meet different kinds of people, some of them might be very interesting! Maybe you’ll find someone that’s familiar with the destination you are flying to, or you can even meet some new friends!
6. Dress comfortable
Dress in clothes you are comfortable in, please do! There is nothing worse than clothes that stop your blood circulation because they are too tight or wear that amazing blouse you don’t want to be creased when you leave the plane. A good idea is to wear layers so you can put on clothes when you’re cold or take of clothes when you’re hot! So get your most comfy clothes out of your closet and start packing your suitcase!
So now you can enjoy your relaxed flight! If you have some more great ideas, feel free to share them!!!

I actually look forward to long distance flights a little. It's nice to have some me time, when I'm not expected to be doing anything but sitting and chilling out. I do take phrase or guide books to read about my destination, but most of my flight is normally spent catching up on some movies, reading some good books and spending time with me and God. Saying all that... I still get bored about 5 hours in...
