conversation with students...

As I walked home from lessons this morning I came across a PE class heading out to the playground, a mass of children running and chatting and laughing as they made their way. A girl comes up to me and the conversation goes as follows...

‘Hello’ says the girl.

‘Hi’

‘What’s your name?’

‘My name's Rozel’

‘Rozel’ she repeats, and slips her hand in mine as we walk.

‘What stage do you teach?’ she asks.

‘I teach grade 3’

(girl counts on her fingers so I say ‘san’ to help, and another girl joins us.)

‘What’s your name?’

(first girls laughs)

‘Rozel’ I say again.

‘Do you like oranges?’

‘Yes, I do. (used to the random questions I get asked now...) What are your names?’

‘My name is Kate’ (girl 1)

‘My name is Nancy’ (girl 2)

‘Where are you going?’ I want to know.

‘We are going to have a running competition. What sport do you like best?’

‘I like swimming’.

‘What’s your name?’ (Nancy asks again, and Kate laughs...)

‘Rozel’ I reply, for the 3rd time!

‘What,  er....cou....

‘Country?’

‘country are you from?’

‘I’m from England’

We reach the playground.

‘Bye, see you tomorrow’ they chorus together, waving.

‘Bye, nice to meet you!’

And off I walked, feeling very happy to be where I am in China...

Ha! Indeed they do. Love how open and friendly the kids are here. They all just want to come and try out their English - I love it!

:) Nice little conversation. Funny how such little things can brighten ones day. Swimming? You fish you.
