'Lady GaGa - What's your problem?!'

Well, it did indeed end up being a day off yesterday! Nice! And to absolutely MAKE my day – a package turned up from one of my best friends at home. It contained a survival care kit of hot chocolate sachets, caramel wafer bars, jammie dodgers, m&ms, trashy magazines to read...oh what a blissfully indulgent evening I had!

This afternoon I taught grade 6 – and they loved the music lesson! Ended up having a discussion about Lady GaGa and Michael Jackson (both incredibly popular here!) turned into a bit of a debate when someone said they hated Michael Jackson’s music and thought Lady GaGa was so much better... I also got them to think of what question they would ask them if they could, I’m very glad they never will! I’m not sure Lady GaGa would like being asked ‘Why don’t you ever wear trousers?’ ‘Are you crazy?’ ‘What's your problem?’ Hmmmm...I won’t repeat the ones that came up for MJ...  My magazines came in handy, as there was an article about Lady GaGa in it, so that got passed around and they very much enjoyed seeing the pictures. The girls came up after and wanted to look through and were talking about the clothes in it with me - I was very impressed! I’d also made a pop quiz based on a ‘Who wants to be a millionaire’ powerpoint template I had, complete with the sound effects. Was a hit, as was the ‘fly swat the word’ game, especially as the kids managed to get me and their teacher to play a round against each other whilst they called out words...

I’ve just had my first one-to-one lesson with a grade student who is preparing for an English competition. We spent the hour chatting so I could get to know her and also get a feel for what she finds difficult. I now need to come up with some ways to make it fun and interesting – although she says she loves speaking and learning English which is a great start! Three hours a week to fill though...any tips?

So, that’s it for today. Tomorrow is another day off due to testing! Woop! Think the girls and I will set off somewhere and make the most of it...then a long weekend as Friday is also a day off! Ooh what to do, what to do...decisions decisions....
