I have managed to sneak a few minutes of this morning's prep time to update my blog on Chalkboard.
The Global Studio is going from strength to strength with our evening English classes now at capacity and new classes being organised.
We have 22 enrolled students studying Monday and Thursday evenings from 6pm - 9pm. The class consists of mainly Sudanese refugees who have been in Australia for a few years but are not progressing with mainstream ESL and LLN classes. The Global Studio is able to tailor classes to suit the individual learning styles of these students and the response has been fantastic.
Volunteer tutors are always welcome at The Global Studio. If you would like to get some hands on teacher training before heading off overseas then please call me. I am in the office Tuesday - Friday 0351336879 or email me via Chalkboard.

Thanks for the comment AlixM09. It certainly is very rewarding. I think the most satisfying aspect is knowing that I am helping newly arrived migrants to settle in to our community and hopefully I am making the transition easier. Some of them have become good friends over the years and this makes it even more worthwhile.
If I was an Australian teacher I would definitely do it! I volunteered in the UK before I worked abroad, and not only did it help me lots, but it's a great service to your community. I was teaching people from Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe all in one class, plus another class of Sikh ladies. They were all highly motivated and it was very satisfying. Often they'd stay after class to say thanks, which proves you're doing something useful, so all round, a good idea.
