Your blog is excellent reading material for someone interested in teaching in Indonesia such as myself. I was wondering what advice you could offer about KITAS and visa's. I'm currently doing the 140 hour course and am planning on living out there by 2012's end but am worried about the legality of it all. I'm half Indonesian, but that means diddly squat to the Visa department, as Indonesia doesn't allow dual citizenship (apparently). So apart from a student visa, how can I get KITAS and how can I be sure my visa will hold up during the duration of being there (1-2 years)? I've experienced the potholes of Indonesian governance over visa matters, but this is different as it's a longer commitment and I would like to have the peace of mind of having a legal visa before making the plunge.
Thanks,
Joy
Hello Robert,
Thank you for blogging, it's great reading through and getting tips.
Just wanted to ask you a few questions about China.
I have started my TEFL course and thinking of looking for a position in China once done.
Being a non native without a degree (short of one year though, might be better than nothing?) I can see that not all countries are open to let people like me in :(
Do you think it will be easy enough to find a job? Would like to head to Beijing.
If you have a minute or two, I'd love to hear from you.
Take care !
Hi Robert, I'm interested in teaching ESL in Indonesia. I'm qualified already, having done the 120 hour i-to-i online course. If you can give me more information on how I apply, that would be great!
Thank you!
Hi Robert. I am taking my TEFL course at the end of this month. I am 19 this weekend and i was just wondering on how easy it would be for someone of my age to get a job teaching in asia? I dont have a university degree so i will have to look into working in China what is fine as i love the country. I am just abit worried seeing i am young and if they would prefer having someone who is older than me? I also have good grades in my GCSE's in English and wondered if that would help?
Many Thanks
Tom

Hi Robert! Love your posts about life in Indonesia. I'm hoping to go there once I finish my i-to-i TEFL certification this year! :)
Robert! Hello!
I am doing the i to i 140 hour course with no teaching experience outside of the course.
What do I do? The China Internship or go it alone route?
I think id rather have my 1st contact working with the little kids, then after primary in China.
Thank you for some interesting reading on here..
Hope your good.
Sam :)
Hi Robert, it's nice to know that u've ever been in Indonesia. Have u ever visited Bandung? I'm recently there. It's so great to see u have travelled around the world. I'm so jealous :D
Could I teach in any countries, even though I'm not a native speaker?
Hi there Robert! I was sent your way by Honor. I was just wondering if you could tell me any pros and cons of living and teaching in Indonesia and if it's possible to get a 6 month contract there. I know your busy so get back to me whenever you have time if you can!
Thanks,
Steven.
Hi Robert, I'm from the US and my boyfriend is Swedish. We are taking the TEFL this spring and hope to get jobs in Asia. I have a college degree, but de doesn't. Do you think it would be hard for him to find a job in Indonesia or China? We have been traveling together for 3 years, and really want to incorporate teaching into our travel. Any advice would help. Thanks!!! Lacy
