Arriving in China!

Well, if anyones reading this, they will know that i'm really behind on my blogs! I can blame it on the rubbish Chinese internet, and my laziness really. Haha.

Anyway, rolling back the clock...

We arrived in Beijing in the afternoon on 1st June after two 7 hour flights via Dubai and surprisingly it was quite fast getting through the airport and customs and stuff. We left the airport and were met by a Chinese girl named Smoki (how cool!) she had a board with our names on. Anyway, the city we were going to was a couple of hours south of Beijing so she went with us on the airport shuttlebus. We got to Beijing centre and none of the taxis would take us to the train station!! They didn't want to have to load luggage!! Lazy people!! Finally one took us and just as we got in the rain started. I don't mean just a little, I'm talking torrents! It was still very warm though! Anyway after 10 minutes in the taxi we were at the station, the streets were all flooded and between us we had to carry about 80 kilos of luggage!! Apparently it always floods in Beijing??

Smoki helped us get something to eat... we spoke hardly any Chinese! Turned out it was a Dairy Queen. You see a lot of those in China. The food was good... maybe it was noodles, haha, I can't remember!

Smoki put us on the train, she was really helpful and kind. She was at a uni in Beijing studying English, but was actually Cantonese. Even she had a hard time with Mandarin to start with! She gave us a note written in Chinese saying 'Hello, can you tell when we get to Shijiazhuang please?' haha.

The train was cool, but only a short journey... 2 hours or so. ( in China that is a short train ride!) We finally Arrived at about 11pm and our agent met us at the station. He drove us to a house... we thought it was our apartment... I wish! Turned out to be a home stay with a student! We were so tired we pretty much went straight to sleep.

Coming next. Teaching and living in Shijiazhuang!

Hi Jimmy,

Hmm, I have found lots of schools want two teachers, however they usually want people from UK, USA, Australia, NZ, SA etc. Maybe you could get a teaching job and your wife could look for one once you are in country. Both of you could come together, but she may be better looking for work in person. Just a suggestion. :)

Hi Rin,

Thanks for keepng this blog. I just read through every post. My wife and I are looking to go abroad. We are taking the course now and looking for jobs while we study. The job hunt has been frustrating. My wife is from Trinidad and I am American. Her passport has been a problem with some countires and the whole couples thing seems to be harder than doing this by yourself, but your blog does give me hope and you paint a good picture of what toexpect w=once you get to the host country, So thanks again and please keep writing. Any advice you may hve would be great as well.

Thanks. Jimmy

Wonderful start:)

How is the Shijiazhuang experience going, please:)
