Finally, I have our flights booked. We are flying out of Heathrow on the 31st May into Beijing. It seems like I have wanted to do this for so long now, but thinking about it, I have only really known about TEFL for about a year! I was originally looking into working my way around the world. Thinking that I would be able to pick up work here and there in a bar or restaurant and keep myself going that way. Thinking about it, I would have ended working maybe 60 hours a week and not seeing any of Europe! Then I came across TEFL when I was doing my research online. Looked into it a little and after a not very long time at all, I'd decided that that was what I was going to do with the rest of my life.
The thing is, now, its about a lot more than just travelling, I am looking forward to teaching! To being proud of my students. To helping them learn!
And here I am, nearly 12 months on and only 12 days away from being in China for at least 15 months of my life and seriously, I can't wait! Woohoo! China here I come! :D

G'day Rin,
Congratulations on the contract, 12 months can sometimes seem a little long, but it will be over before you know it. Most places you go offer a little more money to stay on for another 12 months. I didn't come here through i-to-i I just did my T.E.F.L.with them.
Most of the time any western styled shop or restaurant should have western toilets( McDonalds or KFC ). other than that only your accomodation should have. Also, last I heard it was 5 years continous, so a holiday home and your all set to come back again.
There are so many great things to do and beautiful places to see that always make up for the bad things.
Hey there Rochie.
Well, we are starting at the school in Handan in December. We have a one year contract. We are here in Shijiazhuang at the moment as we wanted to come to China sooner rather than later. We have just been doing a little part time teaching at the training centre. To get some experience you know?
Wow, since 2007? Cool. How long can you legally stay before having to return to your home country? I'm sure I read somewhere that it was 6 years, is that correct?
Yes, I have seen how dirty it is! I'm sure I have visited the 'worst toilets in China'!! it was a beautiful and very clean park here in the city, but, man, the toilets were unbelievable!! Haha. I'm hoping that whilst I am here, more places will get western toilets installed. Don't think I will ever get used to 'squatty pottys'!! The rest of the city more than makes up for that little set back though! I love it! :D
How long is your first placement? My first placement was for 4 months in 2007, and I'm still here, loving every minute.
Also just a friendly word of advice in China. If you can get past the greediness (only time reveals this:( ) and cleaniness (or lack of) of the Chinese people and embrace every moment in China. I'm sure you'll love it here.
Good Luck in China Rin, don't forget to keep us all updated whilst you're out there!
