Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountHi, I had seen a Blog post on here, about teaching abroad with no degree. and They listed you as someone to speak with who has experince with this. I want to teach in China more than anything but I'm worried I wont find a legitmate school that wont rip me off because I don't have a degree. I will be taking my TEFL course soon and I want to know if its a waste of time. Everyone I know always tells me how great of a teacher I would be becuase I love to entertain people, help them, and I tend to be quite creative. Also having grandparents from italy I know what it's like talking to someone with broken english and helping them out. I don't know how to go about securing a good first job with a school that will accept me having no degree and only my tefl certificate. Do you have any advice, I want this so badly I just don't want to get stuck in something that will bite me later. Thanks! Danielle
Hey there I was reading a thread back a couple years and you were talking about teaching in China. Was wondering if you could hook with up with the contact info for the school recruiter? my email is andrew.pwn@gmail.com thanks a lot
Hey again! I was planning on finding work before I flew out (the other way around sounds a bit scary). One of the recruiters I spoke to said something about an F-Visa. It's all new to me, so I'm not sure what's best or what to expect.
Hey Rin, thanks for accepting my request. Just read your recent comment saying that teaching in China without a degree is becoming increasingly difficult. So difficult that you'd recommend against me flying out from the UK?
Hi there :)
I have managed to stumble on your profile by trying to search for people who have done the whole teaching abroad as a couple (sorry to hear your not with him anymore btw!) but i was just wondering if you had any advice for us in finding jobs etc? As were finding it a little hard to find jobs that are looking for a couple or even if we should risk trying to find jobs near each other!
We would love to work in south east Asia too!
Thanks :) CJ
Hiya Rin, I have read all of your blogs and was reffered to talk to you by my other friend Briona. I am thinking of doing a 120-140 hr TEFL course and start my teaching journey. I have no college degree either and would like to know exactly how difficult it was to get your working visa over there. I have no teaching experience either but have instructed thousands of soldiers and have had many discussions with Iraqi and afghan nationals. Any and all information you can give to a newcomer with no college degree would be much appreciated. Any other country suggestions where no degree is neccesary would also be appreciated as well...thanks Rin and accept the friend request please >.<....Have a Blessed day.
Hi Rin, Ive seen you on multiple blogs so thought i'd say hello :) im curerently looking at doing the china internship but am also curious about going it alone?! ive recently split with my girlfriend so its now given me the opportunity to get out into that big wide world again and i think tefl is the way to go for me.
i dont have a degree and have a fairly poor education history so im a bit concerned about this. any advice or thoughts will be most appreciated! keep on enjoying china matey, sounds like your having a ball :)
Hi Rin, are you still teaching in China? I'm currently looking into teaching English in China, I'm Irish, have a Master's Degree and going to complete CELTA in Ireland in November, would be very interested in hearing from you, as I'm definitely not going to go down the route of internship for all the obvious reasons and want to go the solo route. The only thing is... finding a reputable agency/contact, etc. to find a good teaching position in China. My aim is to gain employment while in Ireland and sort out my Z visa in advance and would hope that with my qualifications I would be employed as a Foreign Expert. I was considering writing to Universities directly myself? Do you mind me asking how you gained employment, if you have any agencies/contacts, etc., which you could recommend?
Many thanks Rin and I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Kim
Hi Rin
just been reading you and your bloke have both got jobs in China without degree's. Was just wondering how you've found it as Im sort of in that position. (I have a degree but b/f dosent). We would love to work in China but he's a bit worried about the whole degree/no degree thing! LOL
thanks
Claire
The rules here just change all the time about everything mate! I don`t think they apply to private language institutions. I`ve got several mates who teach at high schools but they don`t really enjoy it because of the lack of discipline the kids have here. Also they start really early in the morning. You`re probably better off in an institution (sorry that sounds wrong!), they pay abit more regularly anyway as they`re used to foriegners and they know we dont want to come all these miles just to sit around with no money, basically.
People are always asking me about Ecuador and the only thing you can do is come and see if you like it. Check the ambassy website for details on visas and qualifications and then try to work out ways round the problems.. it`s all down to money and contacts here.
