Never want to drink again.

Had the best weekend ever! Found a punky, grungey indie-type bar on friday called Mao Live, seen a band called the Mushrooms that were better than expected, sounded like a mix between Lost Prophets and Brand new, not that I like either of them bands but anything that wasn't pop or RnB was always going to be a welcome change. They sold super-potent black russians for 3 pound so went a bit crazy, lost 60% of liver usage and severely paying for it now. On saturday met Sarah and Zoe from the Mayors and thought I was being sensible by only drinking Tsing Tao, forgot about moderation. Went to some crazy nightclub in the basement of a shopping mall and didn't leave till the sun came up, so Sunday was always going to be difficult. Getting really fed up of taxi-drivers not knowing where NIT is and just driving in circles racking up a huge bill, how hard can it be when we give them 2 maps with chinese instructions on them?

After some really-expensive-but-completely-worth-it Wheetos for breakfast and my body weight in fluids I'm hoping the students are feeling up for some quiet pair work and presentations. Got a long weekend next weekend, soft drinks me thinks!

Real life Example 1: You point to what you think is noodles and you get crispy squid that sticks in your thoat and nearly chokes you to death (least I can say I have tried squid...)

Real life Example 2: you point to what you think are spare ribs and get little fish with the spines and heads attached, and have a heart attack when the skulls crunch in your mouth. I can barely stomach turnip, never mind fish brains.

Have learnt 'Wo xiang zhu rou chaofan', I'll learn something else when I'm sick of pork fried rice.

I know how you feel im the same, but you should just go for it! Once you have done it once then in the words of Dr Pepper... whats the worst that could happen!

About 10 mins away on the (extremely hazardous but exciting) bus there's a big row of restaurants, we have only tried one and it was lush, waiting for payday (two weeks as of yesterday) then we are going to try more. I just hate appearing ignorant when they ask you things and you have no clue what they are saying so that puts me off going, more effort needed in the lingo department. Did find a place that sold really salty English chips in san li tun (bar street) about an hour away, but I save getting them for special occassions

Oh dear! It's too early in the morning to start getting hungry thinking about food!

Are there lot's of good places to eat out where you are?

No go on the Cocopops, looked everywhere, I would swap my Wheetos anyday. Honeynut Cheerios were pleasantly surprising, but what I really want is yorkshire puddings filled with gammon, mashed potatos, peas and gravy, may as well put some mint sauce on there while your at it. Oh I torture myself with these imaginary meals, instant noodles just can't compare.

Haha sounds like you had fun! I understand your Wheetos excitement i think id do anything for a bowl of Coco Pops when im away from home!

haha - sounds like a good weekend :)

Love the fact you can find wheetos in China to - who'd have thunk it??
