I have just been offered a teaching position in Vietnam. Sounds very interesting as you not only get free private accomodation but a motorcycle for transportation as well. I am not sure if I want to go there however. I had my mind set on South America or Mexico. Has anyone been to Vietnam or worked there? I would love to hear from you.

I have spent some time in Vietnam and you will not finda friendlier country . I was like you , apprehensive went for a visit and stayed for two years . There are quite a few jobs , most of them don't even ask for a certificate . I taught in one school where one class where there were six the next class fifty . Pay is not bad , cost of living has gone up but still affordable . Go to Sherridans Bar Le Tanh Ton Street Dist 1 talk to Michael the owner he knows everyone . I am possibly going back in a few weeks so could bump intoyou . GO FOR IT .

Hello! just came across your post, did u go to Vietnam? im considering applying for the internship in Febuary, id like to know how you got on? ")
Hi, I have just returned from 3 weeks in Vietnam and absolutely loved the place and its people. So much so that I am going to take a TEFL course with the sole intention of going back. Given the choice I would prefer to to go Hoi An as opposed to Hanoi or HCMC, although I would be happy to work anywhere in Vietnam. Hope this helps a little
Hi there,
Congratulations on your job offer!
If you'd like to chat to others who have experience of teaching in Vietnam I'd recommend:

Hope this helps and let me know how you get on!
Hi Callie,
Thanks for the comment. I was sent a contract today but was told that the contract would be signed once I get to the airport in Ho Chi Minh City. Not sure that sounds right. I have until the end of next week to decide so I am hoping that a position will be offered in Mexico or South America before then. I also have an 18 year old Chihuahua that travels with me and Mexico, Costa Rica or Ecudor is so much closer to me than Vietnam as I live in British Columbia, Canada.
I wish you well in getting to China. I also looked at postings from China and found that most places require a degree in order to get a work visa...government regulations...There are some private schools that will hire without a degree however you take a chance on getting found out and deported apperently and the wages are lower at the private schools. Just something to consider.
Cheers,
Rick
hiya !
i havent started my tefl journey yet but know a couple whos son is teaching in Asia. Last night they were advising me on cities and countrys to go to , based on feedback from their son. Vietnam apparently is a beautiful country to work in and explore. The people are very respectful and laid back. And they told me many stories of single woman travelling the country on their own as it is very safe .
Hope this helps.
