China on hold

Looks like my wish to teach English in China is on hold for the foreseeable future.  I've managed to contract Dengue fever, a not uncommon ailment in these parts.  While it's not life threatening for most, it really takes a lot out of you. On the other hand, I'm moving forward on plans to teach conversational English in my apartment to some select individuals here in Cali.

This weekend's Galway course anyone?

Hey all, Just wondering if anyone here is due to do this weekend's (i.e. Nov 13th and 14th) Galway course.  I've completed two modules of the Online part of the course and so far I'm really excited about TEFL.  As I was doing the course I had to stop and take a breather for all the ideas of how I would teach, and the activities I would do were so distracting and I couldn't help but get ridiculously excited :-D I've...

Please don't hit me with a newspaper in front of my students: When to Walk Away?

When I arrived at my hagwon back in March, I had the opportunity to watch a teacher finish his contract and walk away with his bonus and plane ticket.  This in itself, made me feel very confident these things would be waiting for me at the end of it all.  Well, in the past couple of months things have changed.  The school, which had been under consistant ownership/management for years was sold to a new...
