Comments - Looking for work!

Oh, I don't know! :) I would say that Italy & Europe as a whole are very different. Each country is so different from the next one. Italy is very particular; good for some things and bad for others. I've only been to Lake Como once and it was only for a few days during a vacation, but I loved it from what I saw.

Hi Ashley!

Thanks for sharing! I am actually moving to live with my boyfriend on Lake Como!!! We met in Australia while studying and now we are off to live together and start our careers in Europe. I have currently been applying for Marketing jobs but was also looking at the opportunity of teaching English. That is great you have been successful with your teaching certificate and job! Best of luck to you!

Is there anyting particular I should know before going??? Or travel advice for traveling in Europe...because I have never been to Europe before so I am really excited and slightly clueless about what is essential!!!

Hi Kelsey,

What makes you want to move to Lake Como? Just out of curiosity :)

It's difficult to aquire a visa here; I was lucky in the sense that I got one when I had health issues, and that permitted me to stay here legally during that whole process. After that, my husband and I were married, and he's Italian, so I now live here permanently without problems; of course my case is quite particular, though. You would have to have someone hire you and be willing to go thru all of the paperwork to create a work visa for you; or you could try and study somewhere, and that would provide you with a visa.

As far as teaching english goes, there are tons of opportunities here and many schools to choose from. At least in Rome there are; which is where I am. I currently teach children/teenagers english and it's a very rewarding job. I took the online tefl course here on this site and would say it is definetely worth it. The certificate that they gave me at the end of the course got me my current job. :)

If you have other questions, I will try and be of help! Best of luck.

Heyy everyone!

Totally new to this blogging and still trying to figure out how it all works! I am moving to Lake Como in Italy next month to live and I am looking to work over there and thought about teaching english. I am looking at taking the online course...any comments on that? I'm curious after you take the course what are the opportunities like there, do you feel there is a need for English teachers?

And top of the line question...visas?? I know US citizens don't need one for the first 90 days but what happens after that? I've been living in Australia for the past 3 years studying and working and their Visas are really hard to aquire, what is Italy like towards Americans with Visas?

Ahh so many questions...so feel free to fill in anywhere. Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Hi everyone!

I'm also new to this, and am just beginning to embark on everything.  Italy is my top choice of places to live and teach, so any advice/recommendations would be truly appreciated.  I'm still in the states and going to take the course, but would love some insight into finding a place to live and getting interviews abroad.  I've heard Italy is a bit more difficult for a US citizen.... When did you begin?  Where did you look?  Any info is welcomed!

Thanks!

Danielle

Hi There

I am brand new to this(today in fact) so please be gentle with me.I have lived in Italy for over 2 years now and have recently started tutoring a couple of locals who are struggling with their English.

I now want to further this and hopefully get employed as a teacher and to that end hope to do a TEFL course.I have read I will need Celta or Trinity ,what does this mean.

Any help greatly appreciated

Simon

I hope it goes well for you :)

Aww, that's great!! I came here to be with my love and it's been quite an adventure trying to find my place here; but things are going well and I'm happy. Is your partner Italian? (Sorry for all the questions, I hope you don't mind!) Do you hope to stay here in the future? In the past I've had jobs that I just couldn't stand and I always wanted to teach English; so I'm hoping that I'll find a job doing so and enjoy it!

Thank you! I hope it will all work out well, too. Are you from the UK? What made you decide to stay in Italy? :) That's nice that you were able to find a job closer to where you live; that makes a lot of difference when living in big cities; as I've come to learn here in Rome !

Thanks! :) I had it with NET (New English Teaching)--have you heard of them? Do you work for the wall street school? (Seems I remember reading somewhere once that you did) If so, how is it? :)
