Are you looking for a change .....................Well you have come to the right place!!
Congratulations for making the decision to Teach English as a foreign Language Abroad
The following locations are among the best places to to Teach, make a Living and have a great time doing it !!!
Brazil
The destination for the 2014 FIFA World Cup will be taking place between June and July 2014 in Brazil.
So this is great news for TEFL teachers as the demand for english teachers will multiply tenfold !!!
As Brazil is one of the most enigmatic countries in the world, Brazil is unlikely to leave you unimpressed. The positive stereotypes are true: soccer is a national obsession, women wear impossibly small bathing suits (so do men), and the scenery is breathtaking. The negative stereotypes are equally true: poverty is rife, urban pollution is serious, and the crime rate is bad and soaring.
There are English schools in even the smallest of towns, so your choice depends on the kind of environment you prefer for your teaching experience. For once, the big city does not necessarily offer better job opportunities. In fact the reverse may be true; in a small town where real live foreigners are rare, you will be regarded with respect and gratitude for choosing to forego life in the big city.
Where to go: Like all the large countries, Brazil has regional differences that may influence your choice of location. For example, The Northeast is the most African part of Brazil, with a colorful history and a languid, happy attitude toward life—despite the hardships of poverty. "The South" refers to the three southernmost Brazilian states of Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul, generally considered the most advanced region, with a cooler winter climate and stronger work ethic than the rest of the country
Brazilian English School web sites:
- www.cellep.com (mostly for children)
- www.britannia.com.br (not just for Brits; anyone can apply online on an ongoing basis. Requires certificate).
These are just the chains. There are far more individual schools in Brazil. Try a web search together with a specific place of interest and you may find more contacts.
Major newspaper web sites:
- www.estado.com.br (São Paulo)
- www.atarde.com.br Salvador)
- www.oglobo.com.br (Rio de Janeiro)
English schools in Brazil
Do your homework: as in any country, the more you know about it before you arrive, the more warmly you will be received, the easier will be your assimilation, and the more help you will be offered.
Unfortunately, online resources in English for jobs in Brazil are few. Be weary of corporations that guarantee a teaching job after you have taken their training course or any other ad that sounds too good to be true.
Italy
Cheap travel and fantastically inexpensive gourmet food are just some of the benefits of living in Italy. There is, however, an annoying amount of red tape. It is recommended to go through a TEFL certification program. In regards looking for job here are some links to the most popular job sites in Italy. They include vacancies for a wide range of sectors and feature career articles.

Thailand
Thailand is as close as you get to paradise. The American University Alumni (AUA) Language Center, the oldest and largest language school in Thailand with almost 400,000 graduates, is a nonprofit school with an excellent reputation in the country. The AUA is always looking for TESOL teachers.
Japan

Asian nations are practically begging for English teachers and you can find work via the Internet quickly. Most recruit year round, and provide successful applicants with visa sponsorship, apartment, partially-paid national insurance, etc.
The largest schools in Japan are with AEON and also GEOS. You can also find work with JET or The Japan Exchange and Teaching Program.
In order to get a job teaching English in Japan, you will need to be a college graduate from any field (2-year degrees just will no cut it). You should also speak English at native level fluency. There are some who do find teaching jobs in Japan even though English is not their first language, but this is more of an exception than a rule.
Russia

Because of poor information, getting started in Russia can be a frustrating task. An Internet search using terms such as “teach English in Russia” and “English schools in Russia” will turn up dozens of sites, like escapeartist.com and others, with outdated articles.
You’ll have to sift through a lot of commercial flotsam to get to the hard facts you are looking for. If you’re lucky, you’ll find the web sites of some of the country’s biggest chain schools: for example BKC International , and English First
These schools provide an easy entry into Russia for teachers who are new to the country or even to teaching itself. They can provide visa support, accommodations, and sometimes even airfare reimbursement in return for signing a fixed-term contract. Some provide training and internships for inexperienced teachers.
China

Mao’s former kingdom is the fastest growing economy in the world and English teachers are very much in demand. Often the only requirements are being a native speaker and holding a university degree. You need look no further than www.onlineTEFL.com to discover the variety and quantity of placements available.
The kids are learning machines and a pleasure to teach . A very usefull website resourse for planning lessons or ideas try www.bogglesworldesl.com.
South Korea

South Korea is one of the few countries that offer such a rich and unique experience, as the country has managed to preserve its culture and traditions for years now.
As a TEFL teacher your adventure will be even more unique, as you’ll work closely with locals who are considered to be some of the most hospitable and friendly in the world!
Offers many perks such as airfare, housing, insurance benefits, decent salaries and a low cost of living, South Korea offers the ability to travel and make good money. A good place to start is the job board at Dave’s ESL Cafe. Contracts are usually for 1 year and a bachelor’s degree is required.
Czech Republic

Chosen for its idyllic location, amazing scenery, high demand and relative ease of entry, the Czech Republic—specifically Prague—is the traveler’s dream come true. The Prague Post, a weekly English language newspaper, is the best place to look for possibilities from home.
One final note: if you don’t get the salary, housing options and benefits that you are seeking, politely negotiate, or decline.

No worries. If you need anymore advice just let me know!
Well DUH Kel,
I did a search for TEFL Cali Colombia and found 4 possible places. Now to check them out. You're an inspiration.
Thanks again for your suggestions. I'll do some checking here in Cali. Generally speaking there isn't much in the way of facilities for English speaking foreigners or Colombians. There are quite a few schools for learning English, but not for learning to teach English.
I am currently tutoring two Colombians who already speak English but need help with their vocabulary and pronunciation. I'm not charging for this as they are friends who help me when I need to visit a doctor or engage in some activity where my limited Spanish will not do.
In any case, your help has opened by eyes to problems and possible solutions and I appreciate that.
Where are you in Columbia? Is there an International University/US/UK affiliated college there? You might be able to do one through them. You definetely need to be able to go into classes as such as there is alot of practical as well as theory to cover including lots of teaching practice activities. You may want to see if there are any teacher training Colleges near where you are that might do it?
How about a post graduate certificate in education (assuming you have a degree already), again though you will need to attend some classes to do this. You might want to see if you can do a course where you get paid to teach whilst you learn.Check out www.ajarn.com for more information on this.
Thanks for the tip. A quick check of the DELTA/CELTA requirements indicate this won't work for me because of my place of residence being in Colombia. I have found no brick and mortar resources where I can learn and DELTA/CELTA specifically says they have no online learning.
Perhaps you can suggest an alternative that provides online courses.
Hey CaliRay,
Have you ever thought about doing a DELTA/CELTA?These EFL extensive courses would be great for you and give you lots of opportunities to work in private institutes especially places like China, Thailand,Vietnam, Laso and the Phillipines. Here the older you are the better your prospects in the private education sectors.
Kel
Thanks for this informative post. I'm late to the TESL opportunities but would like to try some of these places you mention. I better plan on getting a BA though as so many places require that. Another problem is my age. At 67, many might see me as too old to contribute. Nothing could be further from the truth.
