Great video Paul, I definitely would have kept the chocolates to myself too!
Do you have any footage of your neighborhood? Be great to see a bit of Japan too!
Wow your apartment is pretty big for just you! Particularly enjoyed your comments as you went along!
Thanks for the comments.
I do have some short clips...its a bit hard to video and take pics around here cos japanese people are very conservative and i dont want to offend people, especially when im the only foreigner here...some vids are on my phone but i need to buy a memory card to transfer them to so i can put them on my computer...but more vids will be along very soon
Ah I see, well ill look forward to seeing what you already have!
How is the teaching going? Are you settled in ok?
Love your apartment Paul! I'm dreading seeing mine to be honest, you hear so many horror stories... Hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised! :)
Hey!
Great video, lovely apt, I'm very intrigued by the Western room - is that a typical feature of Japanese apartments??
For a typical Japanese apartment you will normally have a western room which is wooden floors. \some people put a large rug down because having carpets in the house is rare. Most places will have at least one tatami room which is normally the bedroom. For ALTs you normally going to be in a LeoPalace which is more like a self contrain dorm room. You have the main room with a desk, wardrobe, chair, tv, bed and aircon. In the corridor is usual the kitchen area (very compact) and then a wetroom (shower and tub), toilet and a place for the washer machine and sink. Some places do vary and you might have a sleeping area over the entrance way and occassionally your washer machine maybe outside - youtube japanese apartment tours and this will all make sense.
Most japanese families usually live in a house where by one room is tatami and the rest is wooden floors. sometimes they may have tatami mats in the bedrooms but not always...one thing that every house, flat, aprtment has is a genken or entrance way. You basically have to take your shoes off, this is not debatable. Public places such as hotels, restaurant, offices you are normally fine but if you see a step with sleepers then you will need to take your shoes off. Some hotels you take your shoes off before entering your room, some restaurants have tatami seating areas where you have to take your shoes off.
General follow what others do
I was wondering if i missed the square footage or sq. meters of this flat. Please let me know! I have a family and need to make sure that it is not too tiny! Its a nice video but I can tell that its not too big, bit need to know the exact size though. Thank you!! Anya
p.s. and how often do they have earthquakes?
