I am so sorry for my time of absent, even though its not been that long and i am sure for most its been a peaceful break from me posting all the time.
But the reason for my absent is for several reasons...the main one is ive been busy and the other reason is ive been ill.
I've been ill here before but only heyfever, a slight runny nose, a mild sore throat but this time it was a summer cold...its been going around and normally it misses me but a few days ago i found myself feeling exhausted and just wanting to rest. I though it was the heat but then i developed a sore throat. I went straight to the drug store and got a throat spray, which was some very potent stuff. I had instand relief and the sore throat was gone a day later. However, later that evening of the sore throat i started sneezing. My friends joked that it was a cold but because it was hot and summer i presumed it was just something in the air. Gradually by night fall i was so drained and my nose was running so i decided to go home.
The next day i woke up. I was dizzy, my eyes were sore, my ears bunged up, i had a numb head. I was in no fit state for work...so i had the day off.
Now i am the typical man when it comes to being ill...i hate it... i have been moping around for the past few days, tilting my head from side to side to get some relief from a blocked nostril. I even ventured out to the drug store again, this time for food. I put on a mask, mainly to hide the nostril with tissue stuffed up it. The problem was half way round the store with a heavy basket my other nostril decided to start leaking. Typical, i thought, all morning it had been blocked up and now it decided to run. I quickly completed my shopping and went home only to find a mask full of disgusting watery snot. Being ill is grose.
Today i am still ill...nose is stuffy so not running (as much). some has gone onto my chest...so all in all i am recovering but just gradually...it will mean i will have a wasted weekend doing nothing.
I do have good news though!
Last Saturday i finally got my car from interac. Originally they had said my position was a non-driving one because of the train. But i argued that because of my lack of japanese, the fact im the only english person in my town and that some shops are only reachable by car that i need a car. So, after 2months of many emails and phone calls i have a car...im just uploading the video to youtube and so i will be linking the video to here very soon. I wil also upload a picture.
It small but the seats go down at the back and there is plenty of storage space. Its also automatic which makes it much easier to drive. The last time i drove was about 5 years ago and it was only for about 6 months shortly after i passed. Yet still when i first went driving in this car i kept reaching down to change gear. also the wipers and lights are oposite and so for the first few days i kept switching the wipers on instead of the indicator...its just so strange what your body automatically remembers.
Now when i got the car i did do something that you are not suppose to do and thats drive it without signing the agreement forms for the company. The car was insured but until i had signed the forms i did not have full insurance to protect me (only other drivers) but i spoke to my manager and he said i could drive it for short journeys because i had waited a long time for it.
However, we had different ideas of short journeys...his idea was around my town but not to school...lets just say that i ended up using it for a week to get to schools, shops, the nearby city, 5towns down etc...all was fine. Apart from a one school i clipped a sign...no biggy...i only knocked the mirror out of my wing mirror...only the mirror smashed, there was no scratches and the sign was ok...
They shouldnt have put the sign in a silly position - sticking out on the side of the road as you pull out of school...judging by the sign it looked like it had been hit a few times and i was going very slow so im ok. I took the car to a garage and ordered a new mirror...which cost 40pounds including installation due to it being an electric heated one :S.
But i am now legal to drive and have signed allt he paperwork...although i was given the thumbs up yesterday which was when i had the day off school...so ive only driven it round the corner to the store since ive had the thumbs up :S
Other news!!!
Ive had all half days i school this week because they have been having a similar thing to UKs parents evening. Instead the first grade teachers all go out to the students homes and sit down and talk to the parents. apart from one school where all the parents came to the school due to the students all being spread out.
I also got my hair cut for the first time in Japan...all done with scissor, no buzz cut...he also put shaving cream on the back of my neck and shaved it...ive never had that done before and then to top it off he vacuumed my hair...no kidding...he got out a vacuum hose and vacuumed my hair...lets just say this was the first time i didnt have an itchy back due to hair going down my shirt...he spoke some english and it only cost 10pounds...ive now got another points card cos the 12th hair cut is free :)
on monday its my last day at one of my school because they are going with a different company after summer. So the lessons are games.
also its about 2weeks and it will be summer...me and a friend are planning a trip to Tokyo
Anyhoo...check out the vid...
talk more soon

Sorry you've been feeling ill Paul, but glad you're on the mend!
That's cool about the car - you planning any road trips - you should do!
I can imagine. :) I haven't driven since I came to Serbia.. I'm almost nervous about the thought of it now... luckily here in Serbia and Ukraine where I'll be come August have great public trans and I don't really have to worry about it. For now at least. LOL
many americas cope...its a little different but you learn to adapt
Wow! Glad you starting to feel better, and I hope you continue to feel better.
Second.. you have been busy!!! Congrats on the car. I can imagine that's interesting. At least you're used to driving on that side of the car.. for me, being American, I'd be totally lost.
Have fun in Tokyo too!!!!
