Hello everyone, I have attemped teaching english to large classes 2 times and dont want to stuff the 3rd attempt up, I dont understand what tutors are saying and was hoping someone else could help me....
the question I am making mistakes on is:
Prepare a plan for a 45-minute lesson on vocabulary of character traits. You have a class of 60 students. While the class is labeled ‘intermediate’ there are different levels within the group. Think how you will generate and sustain student interest, how you will group the students and how you will cater for different learner levels.
Note: you need to teach vocabulary of character/personality traits such as ‘honest’, ‘stubborn’ or ‘sensible’, not moods and feelings such as ‘happy’ or ‘sad’. When considering presentation techniques, bear in mind that the target vocabulary is non-visual (i.e. you cannot draw 'honest', etc), so think of other techniques of conveying the meaning.
Please include the following information:
Target language (list the words you will teach)
Assumed knowledge (list vocabulary/structures you expect all your students to know)
Anticipated problems
Solutions
Preparations and aids
A step-by-step plan of the entire lesson including the timing of each stage.
(Please write a minimum of 200 words)
I answered
Objective: to teach vocabulary of character traits
compacitiy: 60 students
length: 45 minutes
Level: intermediate (adults)
Target language: honest, sensible, jealous, rebellious, trusting, rude, selfish, sneaky, untrustworthy, nervous, cruel, caring, reliable, un selfish
Presentation technique: to make the meaning of the words in target language clear, I have used visuals of the video clip so the students can see different character traits and by driling the students on the character traits of the robber and the lady doing a mind map of the characters on the board.
Also doing a survey on themselves so they get to know their own character traits.
assumed knowledge: The difference between peoples actions being good and bad.
how to design a poster and what a poster is
anticipated problems: working in big groups, lots of different levels and personality traits
solutions: giving someone a role to present the assignment and someone to design the poster with everyones ideas included in the poster
preparation and aids: worksheets including scenarios and surveys, white board, colour textas, big sheets of paper, video clip
stage interaction timing
1) Warm up- split the class into 3 groups being groups of 20 and have the students play a game of chinese whispers, the teacher will start each whisper.
Reveal the whisper originally said at the end.
Revise and collect homework from last lesson T-S-S 6 minutes
2) Lead in- Show a short video clip of a robbery at a shop where a lady was hiding trying not to be seen, she called the police and the robber heard her and tried to give her some of the money but the lady shouted no and ran T-S 5 minutes
3) Plenary- have a discussion on what the students understood about the clip by asking them. What did they think happened in the clip? How the lady was feeling? What the robber was doing? S-T 4 minutes
4) presentation- introduce personality traits used in target language by drilling them using a mind map on the board about the robbers personality and the ladies personality. T-T 4 minutes
5 Controlled practise- give each individual student a survey asking them about the type of person they are. For example: are they honest? T-S 6 minutes
6 Plenary- students get into pairs and review eachothers surveys S-S 3 minutes
7 Production- Place the students into groups and get 2 students from each group to do a presentation role and a creating the poster role and give each group a different scenario on a worksheet. The scenario will be about a person in a different situation and something that they did. Each group is to do a poster up about the type of personality traits they have. T-S-S 10 minutes
8 Plenary- the member selected of each group stands up and presents their poster to the class and explain what scenario they had S-S 5 minutes
9 Homework- set homework for next lesson. The homework will be to write down a list of as many personality traits they can remember covered in the lesson T-S 2 minutes

Comment: Sorry, but I still can't see how you are going to teach the target language.
First of all, the presentation technique should be described in the lesson itself, not in the pre-plan. Secondly, as the task clearly indicates, these are not visual words, so you can't teach a character words by showing any picture. Think of a different technique of making the meaning clear. 'Doing a survey' is not about presentation at all. It's only possible at the practice stage after the vocabulary has already been taught.
my results again were
Please try again.
Keep in mind that it will be your final attempt at this module. If you don't pass next time, I'll have to forward your work to the Director of Studies for review and you risk failing the module. I hope your resubmission is a success.
Kind regards,
Alex

Yes, you should change the TL. Try things like honest/dishonest, friendly/unfriendly, etc. Remember to avoid moods, e.g., happy/sad, etc.
You need to follow a standard lesson plan, e.g., warmer, lead-in (to generate interest in the topic without using the TL, e.g., they could describe a celebrities using physical characteristics NOT the TL), presentation (where you present and explain the new words and check that Ss understand them), practice (where Ss get a chance to try out the language in a controlled way, e.g., gap-fills, Q&As using set structures, etc) and production (where Ss get to use the new language in a freer way, e.g., class surveys, profiling a classmate, describing the character of celebrities used in the earlier part of the lesson, etc)
Thankyou so much
So I should change the target language? At the beginning of my lesson plan should I change the lead in plenary and presentation completely?
Could you please give me some ideas of what to put?
I move over seas next week for a job and can afford to fail this :,(
Thankyou
The tutor's comments are perfectly valid. At no point in the lesson have you actually presented the new vocab or explained what it means and checked that Ss understand it. The instructions tell you that they are non-visual which means that you CANNOT use images (either flashcards or video) to present and explain the meaning of the words.
Some of your TL is too advanced for intermediate students so you will need to choose some easier words. Most of the ones you've chosen are negative. Consider using some antonyms.
