Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountHi Nithya, hope you're doing well and sorry for the late reply! I am actually Sri Lankan but I grew up in the states and now live in England.
A lot of fluent English speakers living in non-native English speaking countries do take on our TEFL courses. We actually recently started Classroom TEFL Courses in India (in New Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Calcutta). I would recommend maybe e-mailing our team? If you want I can get someone to get in touch with you as well?
While I know a lot about the industry, I don't know if I'm the best person to direct you! Wouldn't want to give you incorrect advice. Just let me know! Thanks, Nayani.
How's the jobfront?? :)
Hi Nithya,
Getting a job as a non-native speaker is still a huge concern for me but I still intend & very determined to complete the course because i believe that english teachers are very much needed in a lot of non-english speaking countries, so getting a job is just a matter of time with a lot of effort needless to say :) Even if the "career" part doesn't work out, it's a good way to improve my English and know where i stand / know where my level is :)
Warm regards,
Yee Lin
Hiya,
While i-to-i's placement service is mostly for UK and US citizens, there are thousands of TEFL jobs you can apply for indpendently of i-to-i on sites like eslcafe and tefl.com - if you're specifically interested in teaching in South Korea you might want to get in touch with Brijesh, who runs this blog: http://indianinkorea.wordpress.com/ - he's an Indian who's now teaching in South Korea.
Hope that helps - good luck!
Hi
How are you doing? I hope you're doing well these days.
In response to your question regarding time, I think it took me about 5 months to complete the entire 100 hour program. I didn't want to rush my way through anything, and certainly some modules you'll find you'll need to spend some extra time on them, whether it being that they are longer modules with a lot of reading and information in them, or they have a lot to as far as the work load goes.
I haven't heard too much about discrimination, though do ask around to others as well and see what they have heard or experienced. In my own thoughts, this industry is like any other, you'll have you great experiences and fair oppotunities to find what you are looking for and you'll get the darker side where there is descrimination and the unrealistic demands. Keep you're head up, do your research before heading out and I'm sure you'll find the wonderful experiences you're looking for. Do also look through some of the group pages here too, there is lots of information on classroom management, finding work, and so on.
I hope I was able to answer your questions and do feel free to ask again should you have any more.
Have a great day:)
hola.... Sorry for the late response... I am in the middle of finishing my 3 month work contract at a graphics company. I also 1 test away from finishing the 60 hour tefl course.... Then It's back to spain.... :) How have you been?
Hi,
How are you doing? I hope you're doing well these days.
In regards to your question to me, I chose i-to-i because it offered the most for a price that was affordable and also because I was unable to complete a TEFL program in a face-to-face classroom (I was working a lot and my hours didn't accomodate the hours for a face-to-face course with so many hours at that time).
I would certainly recommend the i-to-i program, as you do learn a lot and you do have a tutor who works with you in correcting your assignments and sharing ideaas with you on the subjects you're working on. I personally found it to be quite helpful and there was someone I could keep in touch with even after I finished my qualification.
To start the program is completely up to you and what time would suit you best, as everything is done on-line. Through the i-to-i web-site (www.i-to-i.com) you can request that someone call you, you can call someone from the company or you can request a newsletter to get a better understanding of what is offered and what would best match your interests. There is also an outline of all the courses, based on their hours and what you can expect to learn from each one. There are also information guides that you can download as well at the end of your courses that will help you whan you have finished and give you a basic guide. During your program, there are short videos that you can watch to get another view and some other tips on how to teach grammar.
I hope I was able to answer your questions. Do ask again if there is anything else you would like to know.
Have a great day and good luck with your TELF journey:)
