York girl ‘excited’ about African adventure

Posted 26 Feb 2009

The West African country of Ghana will be the new home of a York girl hoping to promote social inclusion and help with community projects.

Lorraine Stinson, 21, is giving up her historic cathedral city next month to volunteer in Accra, according to local newspaper the Press.

Before heading off, she will be spending three months in Plymouth with exchange students from Ghana. Her hospitality will be reciprocated when she stays with an African host family from June.

Ms Stinson told the news source: "I’m really excited. What I really like about this project is that the young people in Ghana get the opportunity to come to England – so it’s a two-way thing.

"I went to Thailand to teach English a couple of summers ago, but this is going to be a completely different experience."

Gap year specialist i-to-i, which organises teaching, healthcare and media projects in Accra, claims the capital is "perhaps the friendliest and most hospitable city in Africa".ADNFCR-2167-ID-19046473-ADNFCR
