Work experience can help a bright graduate gain employment

Posted 28 Jan 2011

Work experience can help a graduate's CV stand out from other applicants for a job, so taking a TEFL course and learning to teach English abroad could be an option.

That is because gaining a job where you can teach English abroad for a year or so can help a graduate build up their CV and show potential employers that they have experience of work.

According to James Uffindell, chief executive and founder of Bright Network, a social recruitment network for graduates, stated that work experience can help someone build up a CV.

He said: "The key is to keep looking for relevant work and be willing to take any role in the sector, rather than waiting for the dream job, as that gets you on the ladder and helps you make the right contacts."

Therefore, youngsters who wish to teach but cannot obtain their dream job at the moment may like to teach English abroad instead.

Mr Uffindell added that the job market for bright and ambitious graduates looks good but there one fifth of graduates are unemployed two years after leaving university.

The Office for National Statistics revealed on January 26th that the rate of unemployment among graduates has doubled in the last decade.
