Low-cut tops and short skirts should be avoided by women if they are going to teach English in China, it has been suggested.
Female teachers have been told to "cover up", Honor Baldry from i-to-i wrote on the firm’s Chalkboard blog.
She advised that showing too much flesh could be harmful to creating an image of authority.
"Flashing cleavage, midriff and thigh is not going to be a bringer of respect," the piece said.
Ms Baldry also recommended that teachers avoid being scruffy and that they prepare for the switch between the summer and winter seasons by taking clothes that can be layered up, as opposed to bringing a separate wardrobe of bulky items.
Gap year travel specialist i-to-i recently named China as one of its top five destinations for TEFL teachers in 2010.
