Universities minister David Willetts has urged youngsters who fail to get a university place this September to keep reapplying every year as people can go at any age.
It could also be a good idea to undertake an apprenticeship or gain work experience such as teaching English abroad while waiting to get into university, he suggested.
Mr Willetts and the skills secretary Vince Cable were being grilled by MPs on the cross party Commons business, innovations and universities select committee today (July 29th), reports the Guardian.
MPs warned the minister that more than 170,000 youngsters would miss out on a place at university in September.
Mr Willetts is quoted by the news provider as saying: “You don’t have just one opportunity at the age of 18 to go to university, people can carry on applying.
”We don’t want to get into a situation where the entire focus is on the academic route.“
Furthermore, people who fail to get a university place this year may consider taking a ”http://www.onlinetefl.com/">TEFL course and teaching English abroad.
