Unemployment in US unexpectedly declines

Posted 29 Jul 2010

New claims for unemployment benefit in the US fell by 2.4 per cent last week, reports several newspapers today (July 29th).

Claims for unemployment benefit dropped by 11,000 in the week ending July 24th but at least four million US citizens are still out of work.

Unemployed Americans could consider taking a <a href= “http://www.onlinetefl.com/”>TEFL course and moving overseas to teach English abroad as an alternative to claiming benefits.

It is believed that the decline in numbers is due to less people being laid off from car plants but some analysts think the figures are misleading.

Economists at Capital Economics told the Financial Times: “We strongly suspect that the claims figures have been distorted upwards by the various benefit extensions available to the long-term unemployed.”

Claims for benefits were the most prevalent in California and South Carolina where job cuts in the services and manufacturing industries increased.

However, if someone finds that they have lost their job due to cuts, a TEFL course can train them for something new and it can be done from home.

Last week the US senate passed a vote that will ensure that those unemployed for more than six months in the country will receive their benefits back after a funding dispute.ADNFCR-2167-ID-800008396-ADNFCR
