Unemployed Americans to get benefits back

Posted 28 Jul 2010

On July 22nd, the US senate passed a vote that will restore benefits to 2.5 million unemployed Americans who have been out of work for more than six months.

The country has a high unemployment rate of 9.5 per cent and people out of work could consider taking a <a href= “http://www.onlinetefl.com/”>TEFL course.

Taking a TEFL course could help Americans learn how to <a href= “http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-jobs-abroad/”>teach English abroad and find a job overseas, possibly in Asia as language teachers are in demand.

Around half of unemployed Americans have not received any benefits since the beginning of June as the Democrats and Republicans could not decide how to fund it.

It is hoped that they will start receiving payments this week as the ballot passed by 59 votes to 39 and president Barack Obama now has to make it into a law.

Senator Richard Durbin, Democratic Illinois, said: “The extension of unemployment benefits literally means bread on the table and a roof over the heads of millions of families around the country who have fallen victim to this recession.”

A recent article in the Tuscaloosa News stated that only 33 per cent of Americans aged between 16 and 24-years-old were employed last summer.
