Flights to destinations around the world could be disrupted if a strike being planned by Virgin Atlantic pilots goes ahead.
Pilots have threatened to strike later this year, for the first time in the airline's year history, due to a dispute over the amount of time off they are allotted to make up for working weekends throughout the year.
They are currently guaranteed 120 days off in the year as well as their holiday, but the carrier is considering cutting this number as part of its cost-saving measures.
However, talks between the two parties are said to be progressing well.
Earlier this week, a spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic said: "We have had constructive talks with our pilots' representatives and have presented a clear proposal to clarify the issue.
"We recognise the significant contribution that our pilots make to our business and are pleased that we have been able to respond to their concerns in this way."
Air travel has already faced major disruptions in 2010 due to strikes by staff at British airways and the spread of a volcanic ash cloud from Iceland across flight paths.
