The world-famous Rio de Janeiro carnival is due to start next month but there are also a number of other festivals around Brazil worth a visit, it has been suggested.
Alternative suggestions from the Brazilian Tourist Board might be of interest for Brits working as TEFL teacher in the Latin American country.
One carnival it recommends is in Olinda and is ideal for those looking for a smaller festival experience compared to those in the big cities.
This "cheeky carnival" takes place in the narrow streets of the coastal town and begins with a float carrying 400 men all dressed in drag competing for the prize of the "most beautiful" and the "biggest prude".
The tourist board also suggests people in the north east of the Brazilian coast to try out "a party not for the faint-hearted" in Trancoso.
Although one of the "wildest" carnivals that Brazil has to offer, peopl can escape to the beautiful beaches to relax.
The general manager of the Brazilian tourist board in London, Tom Falcao, said this week that the country was becoming increasingly popular with British visitors.
