Tourists can celebrate Chopin’s 200th birthday

Posted 29 Jan 2009

Brits teaching English in Poland this year might want to join in with the nation’s celebrations of one of its historical icons.

It was 200 years ago that the composer Frederic Chopin was born and to commemorate this anniversary the Mazonian Regional Tourist Organisation is offering people the chance to take a tour of all the significant locations in his years.

The trip promises to "give visitors to the region a unique insight to his life", explained acting director of the Polish National Tourist Office Ewa Bikin.

People can follow the pianist’s footsteps starting in Warsaw before moving to Milanowek and then onto Sochaczew – the town he used to visit and perform in before he emigrated.

The tour will also take sightseers to the place where Chopin’s parents got married and he himself got baptised in Brochow.

Ms Bikin added that as well as finding out about the composer’s life and upbringing, it would also provide tourists with a chance to walk through a "wonderful part of the country".

Chopin was responsible for creating many musical forms such as the ballade.ADNFCR-2167-ID-18999731-ADNFCR
