Tips on learning Mandarin while teaching English in Taiwan

Posted 10 Mar 2010

One traveller has shared their tips on how to learn some Chinese Mandarin while living in Taiwan, by using a variety of electronic technologies.

Responding to a question by Steve Kaufmann – AKA The Linguist – on his official site, James Cline offered a wealth of options as to how people can begin to learn the native language while teaching English overseas.

In his opinion, subscribing to blogs about language learning can be a great resource for picking up tips, while another idea is to download podcasts or radio programmes on to an Mp3 player and play them back at your leisure.

Mr Clines explained: "I try to listen to some audio content for about an hour every day. Usually this listening occurs while I am exercising (mostly jogging and long walks through Taipei)."

He also recommended an application called Anki, which offers a sort of digital flashcard service for memorising vocabulary in different languages, as well as studying for exams or brushing up on geography.ADNFCR-2167-ID-19660066-ADNFCR
