TEFL teachers ‘can make Buenos Aires their home’

Posted 29 Jan 2010

Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires could be a great place to travel to for those wanting to put their TEFL qualifications to use by teaching English in the Spanish-speaking country.

An article on the Literacy News website discussed the prospects of moving to the South American city and suggested those with TEFL certification will find both the opportunity to work and have a great time.

"If you fall in love the city like the three million people that live here, you can make it home and teach English," it stated.

Literacy News reported on the location earlier this month, claiming that it is one of the "most exciting" destinations on the planet, with great food, nightlife and history packed into the bustling metropolis.

Its remarks were echoed by the New York Times, which this week praised the city for its "graceful elegance and cosmopolitan cool".ADNFCR-2167-ID-19588158-ADNFCR

THings are very expensive in Argentina in relation to local wages. I am a full time teacher and almost all my money goes for food. Food is more expensive here in dollars than back in the usa and when you consider that an entire days work will only earn you 20 dollars, you can see why I dont own sneakers, cant buy clothes, never go out to eat. I have seen my lifestyle sink like a boulder since I moved here. This is a very troubled country and inflation is soaring, wages are very low, and why would anyone in their right mind want to move to this dirty, polluted place of nasty people?
