A 24-year-old has admitted he is relieved to be home safe and sound following a school placement in swine flu epicentre Mexico.
Alistair Dixon told the Grimsby Telegraph his seven-month placement was up last week (April 25th) but he feared the medical emergency might hinder his return trip.
His teach English programme was organised by the British Council and Mr Dixon revealed 30 other colleagues on the same scheme have also come home as the number of flu cases continues to mount.
He told the newspaper: "Things have really snowballed since I left.
"I’ve been reading the news and I’ve seen the army giving out masks and even more services have closed. I’m just glad to be home."
Schools in Mexico City have been temporarily shut to curb the spread of the virus.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office website currently advises against all but essential travel to Mexico in light of the outbreak.
